PS3 goes Slimline

I actually like the look of the slim one better now, it makes the console look less like a toaster/bread bin. Its no wii though (design wise i mean)

If my PS3 was placed somewhere different, I could imagine a smaller one being extremely handy, but where it is, it's fine. It's not that large when placed near a Sky Box... under a TV. Curious to see what it looks like RL, though.

Cool, anyway. Good Christmas present.

It will be good for new buyers (as long as there are no hardware problems) but I prefer my George Foreman Grill. Space saving doesn't mean a lot to me since my PS3 is stood on end in a space which would otherwise be useless.

I'd like a PS3 so that I can play Valkyria Chronicles, and it would serve a very useful secondary purpose as a Region B Blu-ray player. But £250 is still more than I'm willing to pay. £200 with Valkyria, Sony, and we have a deal.

I'm glad I bought one for £450 back when they had PS2 compatibility.....I like having my PS2 games slightly upscaled, & not having to have my PS2 plugged in anymore.....Too many wires.

I think £250 is fair, given that you're getting a console and a good quality Blu-ray player. Top of the line 360's are still over £200 new without the Blu-ray capability.

£150 is my standpoint....especially given that back compat has gone away and is seemingly never coming back.
I can see second-hand prices getting to that level within the year, somewhere. May also be some retailers wanting to offload the PS3 Fat off sometime, since they're apparently ceasing manufacture altogether (because the Slim is supposedly so cost-effective to produce).

I'd feel happy about the price-cut, but I'm freeloading off my housemate and playing on his machine anyway :p

Fair point. For me, though, the PS3 has considerably fewer "must play" games, and that's my primary concern.

True, & standalone blu-ray players are still pricey. PS3 is the best blu-ray player as well because it is easy to update it.

Pfft, I bought my BRD player + multi region DVD upscaler last year for LESS than my first DVD player...and as for being the best BRD player because it's easy to update.....most BRD players now just have an "update" button (hell, mine even uses the XMB because it's a Sony one).

Admittedly £160 was still outside what most people would have paid, but I've been very happy with it....especially with Green Lantern: First Flight, Wonder Woman, and Justice League: New Frontier all being region free ;)

Amazon are doing the 80gb regular PS3 with Terminator 3: Salvation and Rise of the Machines Blu-ray, either Infamous or Ghostbusters, and another selected game for £260. Since I don't want any of them I could sell all three games and the Blu-ray to CeX for £65, leaving me with a console that effectively cost £195.

Then I could buy Valkyria Chronicles and Siren... tempted I am.

I should have waited but I am not that bothered. Really, the only thing that bothers me is not being able to play my PS2 games on my PS3. Here's hoping someone will come up with a method to chip PS3s to play PS2 games.

But just how many does the 360 actually have? Oh it has a large library, but it's not like it has a large selection of must haves. When I had my 360 I must have owned 30 games in the time I had it, and sold about 25. It just doesn't have many games that you'd want to keep.

There's quite a few games I wouldn't be without, hence I won't ever sell my 360. And multiplatform titles tend to fare better on the 360 since that's usually the lead platform. So I'm looking for exclusives to justify a PS3 purchase, and at this point only Valkyria Chronicles and perhaps Siren are games I'd buy without hesitation if they were available on the 360.

For the most this is certainly true which is why i've heard some people complaining about multiformat titles on the PS3 since they rarely take advantage of the hardware. Plus if it was done the other way around, the games would take longer as Developing for PS3 and then porting to 360 is quite hard from what i've read and heard.

Stricly speaking though sony are one step closer to getting me, i just need another price cut and a certain game and then i'm onboard.

it's depends on the price now..... i am not holding my breath considering the high price of the pspgo! i will pick one up some through! it will go nicely to my 360 and ps2!
