There is no Onimusha 4, Dawn of Dreams is kind of a spin-off sequel since the Shin (New) part of Shin Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams was removed for the US/Europe release. Don't know if they'll bring back the numbers for a 4th yet :lol:

Does it really matter whether it is or isn't? I mean, for all intents and purposes it may as well be an unofficial fourth installment in the same way one could argue Code Veronica is the fourth Resident Evil game?

As far as my own perspective is concerned, it is a fourth game that like you pointed out moves on to a new saga. Whether its offical or not doesn't concern me. Sorry. :)
 
that seems fair enough, mind you since tenkai nankobo is samanosuke akechi i thought it did seem like a 4th installment, but there ya go
