I've seen the film twice (once in the cinema) and it is jolly good fun. The extras look like the most comprehensive that Optimum Home Entertainment have come up with for any of their Ghibli releases.

Nice, I'll be picking up the special edition as soon as it's out. Saw this at the cinema and after my first viewing, I'd put this up there with the best stuff Ghibli have put out.

This release does also feature the original Japanese soundtrack though right?

And what happened to the Ponyo plush though? Or was that only for the American release? :(

=( Seriously? I though it was the worse of all ghibli, even considering the Tales of Earthsea...

Well, I've only had the one viewing at the cinema but I enjoyed it immensely. It's definitely Miyazaki's lightest, most commercial film yet, and it's aimed at younger kids obviously, but his crazy imagination is still working overtime and the animation is absolutey amazing. Was a 9 out of 10 for me.

Just so you don't think I'm completely on crack, this would be my list of Ghibli faves:

Amazing:
Porco Rosso
Nausicaa
Spirited Away
Ponyo
My Neighbour Totoro
Grave of the Fireflies

Good:
Princess Mononoke
Howl's Moving Castle
The Cat Returns

Blurgh:
Pom Poko
Only Yesterday

I'm still yet to see Tales from Earthsea btw. Hoping to pick it up soon. :)

I always suspected you'd be on something, as to work in the city you have to pick your poison and you dodged my calls for a pint, although you work about 5 / 10 minutes from me...
Anyway, move ponyo all the way down and mononoke up and we have an agreement.

But then again, if you go for the imagination and imagery alone, then yes, I must agree Ponyo is possibly the strongest Ghibli title in these regards. It's just that the story really disappointed me.

Ha! I was off to football that night. I may see you at Summer Wars though, we'll see... I'm shy. :(

This has gone way OT now...

(o.0)

That's what I call a Ghibli fanboy =)
I don't believe I have the same devotion you have to anything...

Just ordered my copy of the special edition blu-ray

Also with all these lists rating Ghibli movies, has anyone seen 'My Neighbours The Yamadas' and if so how do you rate it?

For 50p I can purchase a pack of Tesco Value Fish Fingers. In all probability, I would enjoy such piscine morsels more than I would this film. Plus, I could also benefit from the comparatively greater amount of fish they contain.

My Neighbours The Yamadas is simply amazing,a charmng touching and funny movie about the everyday life of the Yamadas, some would say not that much happens in the movie and i have read some find it boring but that simply is not the case. The movie showcases that yeah life does sometime suck and sometimes can be a struggle and occasionally its the ones closest to us that annoy us the most be it you mum, dad, brother or sister but in the end it is this family unit that keeps most of us together and sometimes we take our loved ones for granted, even a simple trip to the supermarket ends up with hilarious consequences, you will laugh maybe even cry but in the end this film will leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling inside, it is a Celebration of what the word family truly means,it might be the dark horse in the Ghibli cannon but it is also there hidden gem.A masterful piece of art by Isao Takahata.overall i,ll give it a soild near perfect 9/10.
