In the concluding part of our retrospective, we tie some monofilament wire round the hilt of our katana to discuss Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and Highlander: Search for Vengeance. When asked about the possibility of a sequel to Search for Vengeance, Kawajiri replied "No, there can be only one".

Sorry for resurrecting this thread, I was just looking for somewhere to post this analysis on the deeper meanings of Ninja scroll: http://new-savanna.blogspot.co.uk/2010/ ... ninja.html it's pretty good. I just typed in to see if there were any threads on Kawajiri and this one came up, though it's always good to bump as new people may not have heard this ep of Nakama, and I'd let it pass me by too!

By all means, bump away if it's relevant (we could use the exposure).

It was quite an interesting read though. I was a bit dubious at first, after I saw mention of the rape scene almost straight away, but I think he had some good points to make.

It is indeed an interesting reading of contrastingly framed scenes of sex as well as other motifs. I wonder, though, if his assertion that this is somehow an interesting feat of Ninja Scroll (like, IT'S MORE SYMBOLIC THAN YOU THINK!!) isn't rather far-fetched. I think these are the kinds of observations you could probably make of many, many anime because any kind of art will rely on shortcuts. And I guess that's what I'd call them: he's reading into the shortcuts rather than symbolism; he's teasing out themes rather than a philosophy.

I think this is still a worthy pursuit - I'm so glad someone is observing Ninja Scroll for more than just the 'OMGs' - but "symbols within symbols"? No.

Given this is the top post podcast, I'll post here.

After mentioning it, editing reigns were given to me by the Prof and I got the files a few weeks back.

Out of the 2 hour deal, I've only made about 30 minutes in way, between being a noob at Audiation and a there being a lot of things to edit it's been a bit of a slog.

Also on my docket (besides seting up a New Media busness) Is two video projects, one for Cali Otaku (an Anime Club for a Uni) and a Season recap vid for VGCW so progrtess might be intermittant. I'm sorry for this.

Just thought itd' be prudent to keep people in the loop.
