Paprika foreshadows Kon's new movie the Dream Machine

Frankly I think live-actionising Kon's films would be a waste. They're as good as they're going to get, the animation allows for a more fluid imaginative world to be created. I generally don't agree with making live action versions of anime/ cartoons because I don't think any have improved upon the source.
This, a million times this. I bet no-one can name a single live action adaptation of an animation which has been better (or even as good as) the work it was based on. Even taking into account differences of opinion, I don't believe anyone can honestly do it.

It does, Yume soemthing one moment please... I think it was called "Perfect Blue" on US DVD but it's name is 'Yume Nara Samete' elsewhere

tl;dr - It sucks, Kon's is superior. =P

Thanks for that Sparrowsabre, I looked it up on IMdB as well and there are a couple of reviews on there, both giving mediocre scores (Link).

I'm up for trying to track this down though, it's only 100 minutes and sounds quite different from Perfect Blue. I don't suppose you know if it's possible to pick up an English translation of the book the films are based on?

The live-action Great Teacher Onizuka movie was excellent, in my opinion, though having seen but one episode of the anime, I cannot make any comparisons.

The live-action Guyver, on the other hand......is still watchable. Fun, but not amazing.

Just looking into this, I can't find any of Takeuchi Yoshikazu's books in English.

And I say "books", because it turns out they are based on two different ones. Perfect Blue is, of course, based on his 1991 book called "Perfect Blue", but the live action film is based on his 1995 book called "Yume nara Samete" - which was re-released in 2002 under the film's title "Perfect Blue - Yume nara Samete". It seems to be, at least, a small attempt to ride the name recognition of the anime, despite the fact that neither film actually bares anything more than a passing resemblance in original concept to the books they are "based" on, never mind each other!

yeah sorry my nets been down. I just got "Satoshi Kon: THe Illusionist" (good book btw) which tells me the original Film had little to do with the novel Perfect Blue: kanzen hentai (total pervert, glad they dropped that title...) and the author later wrote PB: Yume etc etc as you said and then something called Simple Red, though he was very happy with Kon's work.

None of them have been translated as far as I know.
