MVM Acquires Owarimonogatari & Sakura Trick for UK home release

Well this came out of nowhere.

This time of the year is always a good time to take a peek into the contents of the UK's two anime-related magazines, as they look forward into the year to come and often spring a surprise or two along the way.

That's certainly the case with the latest issue of MyM Magazine which landed in stores on Friday (full disclosure: our own editor-in-chief Andy Hanley also writes for the publication) and managed to reveal some previously unannounced titles from MVM Entertainment in the process.

Rather predictably, this 2016 preview piece brought confirmation that the distributor will continue to service UK fans hungry for the latest instalments of the Monogatari franchise - Hanamonogatari is on its way next year, as is the so-called Monogatari Final Season series Owarimonogatari, which is again scheduled for release sometime in 2016. Tsukimonogatari is notable by its absence from the article, but that seems likely to be a mistake rather a portent of doom we suspect.

Also of note is confirmation that the distributor has acquired Studio DEEN's anime adaptation of yuri romantic comedy series Sakura Trick for a UK release in 2016 - there's no news of dates and formats at this time however.

Issue 45 of MyM Magazine is available in newsagents and stores now.

MVM Entertainment's highly successful release of SHAFT's Monogatari franchise will be continuing into the new year according to a report from NEO Magazine stating that the distributor has acquired the five-episode Hanamonogatari portion of the Monogatari Series Second Season, as well as the currently airing Owarimonogatari series'. Following their release of Bakemonogatari in 2013, MVM Entertainment have been releasing Aniplex's acclaimed adaptations of Nisio Isin's avant-garde novel series on DVD and Blu-ray in the United Kingdom, with their most recent release being Koimonogatari, which was released back in April.

Both the Monogatari Series Second Season and Owarimonogatari series' are currently available on the Crunchyroll streaming service.

When inseperable friends Haruka Takayama and Yuu Sonoda enter high school and find themselves seated on opposite sides of the classroom, the two decide to make their relationship more special with a kiss in Sakura Trick, a twelve-episode romantic comedy series from Studio DEEN, which MVM Entertainment will also be releasing in 2016. MVM Entertainment have yet to confirm a release format for the series.

Weird they don't mention Tsuki.

Probably an error. So far Tsuki isn't up on Hanabee's site so I'll predict a Q2 release for both.

Yay, I successfully merged threads without cocking it up for once. Yay!

I for one, have yet to dip into the Monogatari franchise, but will be buying Sakura Trick.

Sakura Trick is a show I should by all accounts love but was incredibly disappointed by. Apart from the Yuri scenes. Those were incredible.

Yeah, it was pretty disappointing. But, like you said, it has some of the best kissing scenes of any anime.

Fair. Is Bake not streaming anywhere any more?

It's on Viewster in painful, show cripplingly low quality.

I'm not fond of PQ snobs, but the (burned in) subtitles are physically blurry and I had to squint to read them. How that managed to pass muster at Viewster is beyond me.

The main episodes are on Viewster (Crunchyroll has them also but its for US & Canada only). The OVA episodes that cover the rest of Tsubasa Cat arc is exclusive to the home releases nya.

Yeah, that's definitely past the point of being acceptable. It's not like it's an easy show to parse the visuals of at the best of times.

It wouldn't normally bother me, but it's SHAFT so it looked amazing and there's a lot of on-screen text that I wasn't able to read. (I know you're only supposed to be able to read glimpses of it, but I was struggling to even do that.)

Fortunately I will be getting the blu-ray for Christmas, which is why I only watch the first couple of episodes earlier in the year. :)

Re: Owarimonogatari & Sakura Trick Join MVM's 2016 Line-Up

Adding to the massive sum required to get all the monogatari series. Think I'm gonna wait for the "final season to finish" get all of it on blu ray then marathon the entire thing. I think I would have enjoyed owari a lot more if I had watched it along with the other series because I forgot quite a few details.
