Osamu Tezuka Musical at Sadler’s Wells

A stage production based on the works of legendary creative Osamu “god of manga” Tezuka is due to receive its world premiere when it opens this coming week at the prestigious Sadler’s Wells theatre in Islington. TeZuKa has been choreographed by the famous Laurence Olivier Award winning Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and will run for five evening performances from Tuesday the 6th of September until the 10th.

Although a modern dance interpretation of Astro Boy and Buddha might raise scepticism from manga fans early reviews have been positive with a critic for the Daily Telegraph writing a fascinating piece calling it a &ldquo;&hellip;remarkable sensation&hellip;&rdquo;. The show features images from Tezuka&rsquo;s original illustrations projected above the dancers and has music from the respected Nitin Sawhney and a cast of 10 from both Japan and Europe, the show aims to reveal the imagination of Tezuka and the creative process by offering segments of stories by Tezuka.

All performances will be at 19:30. The performance on Thursday the 8th of will be followed by a talk from the choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and the performance on Friday the&nbsp; 9th will be preceded by a talk given by Helen McCarthy about manga starting at 18:15. Tickets cost between &pound;10 and &pound;32 and can be booked online. This actually sounds very interesting, I wouldn't mind seeing this at all.

That Helen Mccarthy gets around though doesn't she, at practically any event to do with manga/anime in London at least she's always there to give a talk on it. I've never been to one of her talks though, but I suppose she must quite good.
 
Her books are also worth a look, especially the Art Of Tezuka, and the Anime Encyclopedia (co-written with Jonathan Clements, who is also an ace ace writer)
 
Yeah i love the book she done about Hayao Miyazaki,she has never hid the fact she is a massive fan of his and it shows in her book,so much passion and love went into it,some say it was abit to bias but i disagree i thought the book was well informed and packed full of in depth info on his career and his movies and as a massive fan myself it gave me great insight into one of my fave directors and Ghibli in general and i also loved the Anime Encyclopedia which was great before i had the internet to do research on my fave shows.
