Optimum plan UK Ghibli extravaganza

I'm still trying to get my girlfriend to watch it to see the true power of anime.

If there is one movie to open people's eyes to anime, it would be Grave of the Fireflies. It remains the most depressing film I've seen, ever.

That's not to say I have anything against the english dub for those who like that.
i just haven't forgiven disney for the p***-poor job they made of the 'Laputa...' dub, that's all.

I thought it was a pretty good dub, all the voices seemed to fit really well, I also thought Kiki's Delivery Service was done well too :D

I'd love to see a dub of The Cat Returns to see what kind of voice they would give The Baron - he's so cool :D

This is the only Studio Ghibli movie I won't watch for that very reason, even though I've heard it's brilliant, it sounds too sad for me

While I tend to enjoy dark and unforgiving animes, I found grave of the fireflies a bit "too" depressing as of its level of realism and the age of the main charecters.
Certainly my least favourite Ghibli out of the seven ive seen, while it was well made and an outstanding film in its own right , it all felt a bit to real.

Which is why it's a great ambassador for anime, because it's as good as any live action film.

My Nan wouldn't watch Schindler's List for that very reason. :)

Or Saving Private Ryan.

I've actually ordered Grave Of The Fireflies recently (copper coins can be useful over a four month period you know) and I'm looking forward to having my emotional range being played with like harp-strings.

I'm also a big pessimist and don't self-indulge in optimism so this should be an enlightening film.

Thought I'd share that. :)
