Online Shops selling anime/figures survey

2. How many Anime/figures do you approximately buy per month?

Depends. I go through phases; Some weeks I'll buy over 20 volumes of manga and 10 anime dvd's, and other times I'll buy one volume in two months! And, I've only ever bought 3 anime figures in my whole life o_o.

I have heard bad things from people about using play.com. has anyone got any good things to say about them?

They're good. The prices are alright, but sometimes other places are better. Once there was an error with a dvd boxset they sent me, but they refunded it within a week; So it was semi~alright.

1. Which online shops do you buy anime/figures and other japanese items from?

I don't buy from one store: unless the store in question has a bad reputation, I buy from the cheapest. Outside of eBay, Amazon and The Book Depository (manga) are the two stores I purchase from the most.

Since I view figures as an expensive way to waste money, I don't bother with them. I ony buy anime and manga.

2. How many Anime/figures do you approximately buy per month?

There's no set amount. If an eBay auction interests me I bid, if SecondSpin have a sale I buy, if there's a series I want to buy I get it.

3. If you use any foreign sites to buy anime/figures would you switch to a UK based company if it offered the same services?

Even though the currently weak pound is ruining the import scene, there's no way a proper UK based R1 store could work. They'd have to pay the customs charges on top of whatever it cost to get he stock in the first place, and that would be reflected in the price.

There was a UK based import store that vanished a few months back. They sold single volume DVDs at £20 each. I got a lot of them for a few quid on eBay. What that tells me is that there's no hope for a UK based anime import store.

4. Did you like/dislike any parts of the buying experience using these sites? If so please explain as best as you can what you liked/disliked.

Amazon: You need to spend above £5 to get free P&P. It was £15 until very recently.

SecondSpin: Orders take up to (and sometimes over) a full month. Not much of an issue when they offer free worldwide postage, though.

DVD Pacific: They won't mark down the value declared on the customs label.

5. what is you preferred method to pay for items?

Credit card. I don't like the idea of my debit card details getting leaked.

2. How many Anime/figures do you approximately buy per month?

Few if any anime/manga related figures in a year. Anime DVD's 10-20 in a month including box sets depending on release schedules and cash. Manga 5-10 volumes a month again depending on release schedules and cash.

A bit late, but:

1. Which online shops do you buy anime/figures and other japanese items from?

Anime & Manga almost exclusively now from United Publications, used to use Amazon.com many years ago but customs annoyed me too much.
Figures is a combo of UP and Hobby Link Japan, other japanese stuff includes CD's & DVD's from YesAsia & PlayAsia; had tried using Amazon.jp but getting hit with customs for 3x the worth of the CD is a bit much. Also use a couple of clothing shops based in Japan and the odd factor or two.

2. How many Anime/figures do you approximately buy per month?

Tend to think in terms of budget; between £200-600 per month normally, but been hitting a few financial road bumps the last few months :(

3. If you use any foreign sites to buy anime/figures would you switch to a UK based company if it offered the same services?

Yup, customs is a major pain in the butt!! Restriction of choice does tend to make importing a necessity though, especially as when it comes to figures UK sites can't always guarentee getting the limited runs.

4. Did you like/dislike any parts of the buying experience using these sites? If so please explain as best as you can what you liked/disliked.

UP - Great people, good returns policy, a bit lacking on site updates sometimes though.
HLJ- Hard to communicate with sometimes, site user interface is restrictive.

5. what is you preferred method to pay for items?

Credit Card

6. If you could change anything about these sites what would it be?

More control over your orders, better information and more frequent site updates (since the rare stuff goes on order stop very fast sometimes)
