Okamiden: Chisaki Taiyou (a.k.a Okami 2)

Famitsu have revealed that Capcom are working on a sequel to Okami, to be released next year in Japan for the DS. Personally, I'm really excited about this move. I literally just finished playing Okami last night on the Wii and thought it was an amazing game, a lot of fun, and think the control scheme will lend itself heavily to the DS.

More information on the game from IGN.

It seems a strange timing to be bringing out a sequel to Okami, but the wii port of the game is just being released in Japan in a few months, so hopefully the market for the game will be there.

So what's everyone else's opinion on this? Any fans of the original Okami for either the ps2 or the wii? Think that the DS successor will be any good?

I remember a while ago Keiji Inafune stated that Capcom had the rights to Clovers games but were not going to use them and now they're making an Okami sequel? Weird. Oh well, here's hoping it's good. Still need to play the game myself.

Oh, for... WHY?

Is it too much to ask that direct sequels be kept on the same platforms? Really? I've been waiting for this since I finished the game like two years ago, and now they release it on the DS. What is wrong with these people...? This is exactly what they did with Kingdom Hearts. *sigh*

I can only think of it as a bait for you to buy another console

Well Okami for PS2 and the Wii were not hugely successful, so the company are hoping to target a different market (since the DS is the most popular console in Japan). In a strange way, it does make sense. Maybe they'll eventually do a KH:COM and port it to another console.
