and with that we will have all ghibli released in the UK =)

oh, I'm almost forgetting about Ponyo...

Apart from ghibi shorts of course as well but it unlikely they ever get released over here. it a shame as ones like "on your marks" are very good. combing Hayao Miyazaki style with more adult vibe similar to akira.

hell is ocean waves?
You said the same thing about SD Gundam... Have you heard of Google unellmay? Or even better, MAL.

Anyway, this is excellent news. Ghibli films completed in the UK. Is that +2 over the Yanks now? I've been interested to see this for a long time, it looks to have an Only Yesterday feel to it, so I'm sure I'll enjoy it. :)

I suppose this is good news, albeit news from which I can't see myself ever benefiting from.

All things Ghibli I've seen are very good. Not all masterpieces, but a few and considering that, this movie deserves my money.

Though not all Ghibli titles are Oscar winners, none are so bad to be not worth my brass. Known in Japan as "I Can Hear The Sea", I have heard nothing but praise from those who have seen it. More of my brass is tembling to be exchanged for "Ocean Waves".

Thanks for the heads up. I'm quite the Ghibli fan but I didn't even know this film existed. Will be picking this up.

It's their only TV film. They also have a few shorts and stuff, but these are impossible to get legally.

I don't understand, what does TV Film mean? Just that it wasn't in the cinemas?

Pretty much, on saying that i may get it but i don't know i normally don't care about the slice of life stuff, there has to be some sort of hook to get me

Ah I see. I've been lucky enough to see one of their shorts at the Ghibli Museum though.

Officially, yes just because it wasn't on cinemas. Effectively, it means lower budgets.

Hehe yeah I went in 2007. But at that time I didn't know too much about anime having only seen Spirited Away, Porco Rosso, Totoro and Akira. It's kinda what got me into anime that bit more.

I got a stuffed Totoro, postcards, a Porco Rosso art book and a Nausicaa film cell. 8)

The short film when I was there was about a pet cat that goes missing in Tokyo and the mini-adventures it has trying to get home. The quality of the animation really was as good as any of the other Ghibli films I have seen. I would love to see it again, but it's just that little bit more special knowing you have to go to the museum to see the shorts. :)

+3. In addition to Ocean Waves, the Sci-Fi channel's 2004 version of Earthsea still has some kind of exclusivity that is baring Tales from Earthsea from release, and Disney won't touch Only Yesterday (or Grave of the Fireflies for that matter. The difference is that Disney sit on the license for OY, whereas Fireflies was never part of the deal).

I'm never going to feel like my set is complete though. Until they release the Blu-Ray versions and create a numbering system for the collection that actually makes a grain of sense. (Or, you know, stop putting numbers on the goddamned spines!)

All these years and I still haven't got a stuffed Totoro... I DO have a Porco Rosso art book though. It's kind of unfortunate you got one of the few ones Viz actually distributes in English (Give us Laputa, Fireflies, Whisper already...), but no one can pity you for having what is a damned nice book when all is said and done!*

One thing I was wondering about the cels in the Ghibli museum: are they reproductions or the originals? It never seemed likely that they could affordably sell the originals and not run out of them in less than half a year!

* It would be rude of me not to link the following blog for anyone who enjoys animation art books: http://parkablogs.com/content/art-books-asia

Ghibli are missing lucrative merchandising opportunities by the sound of it. I'm sure many people would happily buy Porco Rosso brand bacon, were it to become available.
