This is the best/only picture of the set I've found:

I think I got the boxset for around £18 all in from the US. The only niggle I have about the video is I have noticed some movement artifacts in the first few episodes, but as I watch most of my DVDs projected on a 6' wide screen in my front room if they are there I notice them in anything.

6 inch!? Geez, I thought I had it bad with my 19" monitor!!!! That's only a little bigger than my....

Look again that is the sign for feet, measured diagonaly as screens should be that is about 78" (inches):D

Have not actually watched that much of it yet have only just made it to the end of the first disc keep sitting down to watch it when I am too tired. I tend to watch things dubbed first time around so have yet to test the subs.

That's interesting to know it's not a 'slimpak' set, I saw the UK version in HMV and it looked pretty awesome, so a full size boxset will be awesome as well.

As far as I know, the US releases have absolutely no problems.

Sy was telling me about how the US subtitles for GITS:Innocence were different to the UK ones (in a good way). Whatever the problem Manga UK had - they didn't for the US, as far as I know.

6' screen. Oh the envy. You're going to be drooling in a pool of euphoria when an anime animated at 1080p comes along on a Blu-ray disc, and just shows how incredible something can look on a huge screen!

You've got my thinking how bad my vertical double vision/ghosting issue would be on a 78" screen. The subs must be HUUUUUGE a screen that size, meaning the problem would also be HUUUUUUEGER. I'd probably end up watching anime dubbed just to avoid seeing it as much as possible.

The only anime I enjoy watching with the dub is Cowboy Bebop. I usually never bother with the dub when watching anime DVD's.

Unfortunately my current projector only does 720p/1080i. The best bit of my kit however is my Denon amp as it has a built in scaler that can up scale any video source (composite, component or svideo) I feed it to 720p/1080i and out put it through hdmi so 4 way xbox games look great and everyone gets the equivilent of a 40" screen.

Back to Manga Ent why the differences in the R1 and R2 sub tracks?

That's a question I'd like to know.

Probably worth posting it on the official discussion thread as well. (Let's hope something eventually comes out of that).

May just boil down to something stupid like licensing issues in different regions.

I noticed the Noein set come out way later than it did over here in America - The 22nd of last month.

Maybe they rushed the UK release and took time with the American release?

My R1 set arrived today from DVD Pacific. Excellent looking set, with all 5 normal sized volumes included (Vol. 1 has a slipcover) and everything sealed.

The subtitles seem good enough - Karasu has been kept as Karasu instead of a literal translation, which is a good sign. I've also been impressed by an extra included on the first 3 volumes (haven't tested the 4th or 5th yet) where the director and the VA of Haruka walk around Hakodate; the town where Noein takes place. It's very nice to see decent extras included on anime DVD's for once.

While getting a series this HQ for £16.12 doesn't make up for a £32 game seemingly getting lost and another eBay seller refusing to refund the £10 I paid for my faulty Gankutsuou Vol. 1 DVD, it's a nice addition to my anime collection.

Actually, Manga UK did us Ok with the extras for Noein, porting most of the US extras to the UK.

The Player Cards on Volume 2 didn't make it to the UK, but we did get a 3-minute promo video at the end of the Hakodate segment on volume 2 that the US didn't get.

The best thing about the US version is the Play All option and the well structured menus using the Ouroboros theme. The UK menus had a Sliders like wormhole that looked cool, but was cumbersome to navigate. Also the galleries in the US version are navigable by remote and clear. The UK versions get slideshow galleries that have a dimension warping effect applied, that makes looking at them pointless.

Note that V5 promised a blooper reel, but it isn't on the US or the UK releases.

It could have been much worse. All of Tokko's extras except the image galleries remained in the US. And in the UK, the galleries were put on the DTS discs, which were left out of the boxset.
