Is it still worth getting one now or is it to late in it's life?

DS Lite is backwards compatible with GBA

How old was the GBA when DS Lite was released? Even if a new Nintendo handheld is released, i'm confident it'll be backwards compatible with the DS. It seems Unlike Nintendo for that not to be the case.

Gameboy Colour was compatible with Gameboy Games (Black/White)
Gameboy Advanced was compatible with Gameboy Colour Games
DS is compatible with Gameboy Games.

So; i'd say you're safe.

Well I have been thinking about a DSi as well. Even if a new platform comes out its still worth getting for all the excellent games that are already released on it.

DSi is not GBA compatible and has crappy storage. Don't bother.

if they do i could just trade it in for the new system.
i imagine that if the new system is out anytime soon it will be backwards compatible with ds games it would have to be.

I bet they anouce it late this year or next and be out in two years.

Maxon beat me too it, but yeah. DSi is a waste of cash. If you got a DS lite, you can play GBA games and you can import DS games and play them fine. The DSi if memory serves has been region locked, so if you wanted something like...say Super Robot Taisen W, you would need the lite or original DS to play here, or you would need to import a japanese DSi

I think I will probably wait to E3 now just in case. I heard something similar about a new platform as well not that long ago, I just can not remember where.

I bought my Ds this week and Zelda games: Spirit tracks and phantom hourglass. I debated over it for ages, do i have the cash? is it worth the money i'm going to spend? will i get bored 2 weeks down the line and be stuffed?

In the end i took the plunge and went for it. It should be at home tonight or maybe delivered tomorrow....i've been playing on my sisters Ds lastnight....its great fun :) i'm happy with it, don't get me wrong...my psp is far superior in graphics, capability (music, photo's, video's) but unlike the psp, you tend to see rather alot of Ds's about and there's nearly always a promotional ad on tv everyday.

Oh and with regards to a new console. i find it unlikely. they've just released the DS with a larger screen and even more functions on it... their more likely to keep updating the Ds with new things until their happy that they'v got the most out of it.

The successor to the DS (DS2) is expected to be announced at E3 this year with the new handheld being released in time for Christmas. That may be a Japan only date, so the wise money is on the DS2 hitting the UK in April next year.

I just invested in a DSi XL, but kept my original DS for GBA games. I haven't heard anything about the DSi and XL being region locked. What I can tell you is the XL screens are fantastic and the battery life is longer than all previous versions.

If you have never owned a DS, or only have an original DS, then the XL is a worthy investment. I love the pen-like large stylus.

Another advantage to the DSi and XL is DSiWare. There is a growing stable of very good downloadabel games appearing.
