Synopsis

The story follows a young boy named Yuta, who lost his father in a car accident a year ago. One day, all alone, he goes to catch a beetle at a dam deep in the mountains he used to visit with his father. On his journey he meets a strange old man and it starts raining. Yuta slips, falls off a bridge and passes out. When he wakes up, he finds himself in a village 30 years in the past with a child named Saeko guiding him. While at the village he meets Kenjo, a boy who is the same age as Yuta, and they promise to catch a beetle together. What Yuta soon discovers is that he will be there long enough to make this promise come true.

This film is based on Masayuki Kawaguchi's 2007 novel of the same name. It is being directed by Kônosuke Uda (One Piece, Galaxy Express 999: Eternal Fantasy) with a script adaptation from Kei Kunii who wrote the action-packed Princess Blade live action film. The project hasgarnered a lot of attention due to it having character designs and animation direction by Hisashi Mori (Samurai 7). Other names include Takaaki Yamashita (Summer Wars) who is contributing to visual art, and Seiki Tamura (K-ON!, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) who is serving as art director.
