Argh stuck at work.... not good.

Went out on my lunch and picked up the latest PS2 mag and the demo is on it, WHY AM I AT WORK, I just wanna run home (well drive home it is 15 miles) and try the game out. Really looking forward to this as not only is there city racing but also Initial D style downhill tracks which you can drift corners on. 3 Tracks on the demo and I am hoping and praying one of them is a downhill one. The graphics are mind blowing and apparently the PS3 graphics will give the new Gran Turismo due out a run for its pixels. Wish I could wait for it on PS3 but with a March (somehow I think its more realistically June) release date I need a fix now especially since my NFS: Most Wanted game is currently out of order (bloody dog stood on it and it was the Black edition with the extra cars).

2 months to go until the official release and I can't wait, think I might buy it for myself for christmas.

Oh and when I finish work i have to go to my sisters birthday bbq so I still won't be able to play on it until 9 or 10 tonight...... ARGHHH again!

Good luck with that, personally i've not been able to play a Need for Speed game since Hot persuit 2. I can't stand the handling and all the messing about with paint jobs and spoilers, nope Project Gotham is definetly the best.

Personally i think this will be the best need 4 speed in a while i wasn't a big fan of most wanted but this seems quite dark and intense which could be a nice look for the series

I love the additional kit like modifying cars body work, paint and engine parts. I think it adds a whole new dimension to the game, also in NFS Most Wanted changing the looks of your car meant your wanted level decreased and you could race without fear of being chased.

Yeah they've brought back night time racing and the back story is about gangs racing cars for control of the streets so it means conquering drivers and taking there city piece by piece as well as defending your own turf. I just hope they've brought back Drift Attack levels as I really missed them in Most Wanted

The demo is amazing, it gives you 3 cars to model using the new indepth body sculpture kit a Lambo, Evo and a Muscle Car.

The demo has 3 races on it, these are 2 standard races including team mates so you can use them to block opponents and search the track for short cuts, really simple controls and perfect for when your racing and don't have time to control anyone elses car but your own.

A Drift attack course is also on the demo, however as you are only give highly tuned cars in the demo, unlike the game where you mod the car as you go letting you get used to the increase in power, its difficult to control but great fun and I really missed drifting.

There is no canyon race on the demo, but these are being saved for the actual release as its going to be the best thing about the game in my opinion, playing cat and mouse (race from top of canyon to bottom, you win by over taking, if you keep up with opponent then race starts over with roles reversed, this continues til one over takes or pulls away from the other).

Seriously can't wait til November now

its great that you don't need an x box 360 to use the new auto sculpt feature. I was scared that i wouldn't be able to do it on my PS2 cos it looks quite intricate, and i was thinking the feature could be lost. Glad it isn't though, i'm well excited, its actually going to be worth it unlike NFS underground 2 with was just more rather than different

I still hope they also have prebuilt parts as the auto-sculpt is ok but sometimes I like factory built ones you could buy in real life

REVIEW

Well I got it today and I have to say it has some minor teething problems, like the modding menu is a bit slow in loading new colours and body parts. Also the drift races are incredibly difficult the car just slides all over the place with no control what-so-ever its no way as good as the version in NFS Underground 2 but I may just have to set up the car specially for these races.

Now for the good stuff,

Police are back, thankgod they're easier to lose so you don't waste ages getting rid of them, also there isn't a bounty level so you don't have to stay in a pursuit just for the sake of challenging the next boss.

Areas - The city is split up into areas each one owned by a major gang, to take over these areas you have to beat the races set, as you conquer areas however there are gangs out to conquer you. This means that you not only have to race preset tracks but also bonus ones to keep your own areas and reputations.

In-game movies - Thankgod the comic strips are gones and instead they are live action movies, some are comedy ones (like when you meet new team mates).

Gameplay - Non-stop, the races are fast and you can alter the way you progress through the game by switching car types (Tuners, Exotics or Muscle cars). Having a crew was something I was a bit dubious about but it really works plus each member has special abilities such as upping the winning cash amount, stopping wanted levels rising, bodykit modifications. The blocker is my fave although sometimes he'll take out an opponent and ram them straight into me.

Cards - As you progress and unlock new upgrades you are also given trading cards, these are given to you when certain objectives are met. These cards unlock specials including, Unburstable Tyres, Police Vehicles, Custom Spoilers and even a dumptruck.

Body Sculpting - You need money for this trust me, ok so you can buy standard body kits for a lower price but for real originality you wanna try this out alter every bit of the bodykit...... Big downside is that you have to change the kit when your wanted level gets too high so after all the design work its kind of wasted.

I'd give this 4 out of 5, only played it for about 2 hours may change my mind as I play it more though

The Need for Speed franchise is one of the most overrated in the whole gaming world. All the NFS games have been really lame - I am amazed that there are people that like them at all. I just don't get it... so maybe it's just me! :p

hah! Yeah - thought so! :)

...although sales are not always a good indicator to how good a game is. Plus EA have a history of managing to sell sack loads of sub-standard games via good marketing loadsa advertising.

Very true but this game rocks. Plus your as GT fan arent you? GT and NFS fans never agree as one games track the others street

Would just like to add..... man this game is short, the story mode part barely lasts with only 4 boss races. Plus why can't have all the cars in career mode, its so annoying I currently ripping the city up in a Lambo and the drift courses in an Evo but if I play the quick races/challenges I get the option of the Koernigzzegg (sp) or special unloackable vehicles like the police cruisers or 4x4's or best of all a dumptruck.
