Next BBFC Podcast to focus on classification of anime

Just listened to the podcast, hearing it is making me uncomfortable because they clearly are (like someone mentioned earlier in the post) stuck in the 90s with the whole hentai issue. C'mon what about the recent cut shows and odd ratings?

Can someone clear up a related matter for me, but is my memory playing me up here but wasn't there some company planning to release Bible Black in the UK at some point, but nothing ever came of it as far as I am aware?

Could that have been Scala / Black Chip again? They were the only company releasing R-18 anime.

Incidentally, Bible Black was released in Czechoslovakia and accidentally made it into Tesco stores where it sold out in a day.

Slightly off-topic but still quite interesting. The BBFC have published their revised set of classification guidelines for 2014, coming into force on the 24th February. Changes are somewhat minor, but are as follows
Specific changes to the Classification Guidelines as a result of the public consultation include:

• Greater weight will be given to the theme and tone of a film or video, particularly around the 12A/12 and 15 level;

• Particular attention will be given to the psychological impact of horror, as well as strong visual detail such as gore;

• Regarding language, the public wants the BBFC to be stricter with the language allowed at U and more flexible about allowing very strong language at 15. Context, not just frequency, is the most important factor in how language in films is perceived by the public.

A specific issue highlighted by the consultation is in relation to sexual content, where the public is particularly concerned about the sexualisation of girls, and pornography. The content of music videos and the ease of accessibility of online porn are special worries.
The full guidelines are available here and the results of the consultation are here, both are PDFs.

With regards to the latter.... just look at any of the music videos for songs popular with tweens at the moment and there'll be enough fabric to fully clothe about one of the cast, but not all of them.

There was an interview with BBFC people on the Today programme this morning (radio 4) about a consultation they've done with the public regarding standards for classification. I'll post an iplayer link when I'm at my laptop.

It'd be interesting to know just how many people in the UK do actually watch anime.. If they're going to have public consultations and consider anime as a category, it would be nice to know that the people they asked actually knew what they were talking about. Are there still a lot of people who when asked say "anime.. cartoons?" I couldn't say..
