As the American convention season starts to hot up, several major announcements have sprung up from the most recent "New York Comic Convention":
After months of speculation about the title's situation, Bandai Entertainment have snatched "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann" from ADV Films and will implement a new release method or subtitle-only monthly releases starting in the Summer, with bilingual limited and normal releases starting in April 2009.  Bandai Entertainment also announced the latest series in the Gundam franchise, "Gundam 00", with no release plans set at the moment.  One of Studio Bones' 2007 series "Ayakashi Ayashi" will have a special edition release that includes the manga, which had previously not been announced for American release.  Finally, Bandai Entertainment's release of Code Geass will follow a special release pattern with the special editions including CD soundtracks, manga and audio drama's that were included with the Japanese release.  With the Bandai's UK arm, Beez Entertainment, releasing the exact copies of the American release for "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya", it is possible that similar release patterns could follow for any number of Bandai Entertainment's releases.  Rest assured, AnimeUKNews will be the first to know of any developments as they arise from our own Beez Entertainment thread.
After years of waiting, Yen Press have finally put Haruhi fans out of their misery with their acquisition of both the Haruhi manga series and light novel series, with the manga being released Autumn 2008 and the light novels starting April 2009 in both paperback and hardback editions.  Yen Press will be working with their parent company Hachette Group USA for the publication of the light novels, with their powerful book industry presence the Haruhi light novels will be pushed into the mainstream being advertised as "Hannah Montana meets Heroes".  It remains to be seen whether or not Hachette Group USA have plans to publish their books in the UK.  In light of the highly anticipated anime, "Soul Eater", Yen Press have also acquired the rights to publish the "Soul Eater" manga series.
Tokyopop's "Pop Fiction" line of novels has travelled a bumpy road since its inception in October 2006, and it has now been confirmed that their publications of the "Slayers" light novel series will end with volume 8, leaving volumes 9-15 unreleased.  Although Tokyopop's publication of the "Kino no Tabi" light novel series has been put on hiatus, it is still in the hands of Tokyopop and still has a chance of publication.
Viz Media avoided answering any questions on the status of a vast number of their 'on hiatus' anime properties by making their panel 'invite-only', using the panel to announce to discuss their upcoming title "Ultimo", co-created by Marvel's Stan Lee, and "Shamen King" author Hiroyuki Takei, the title has just started publication in the Japanese manga magazine "Jump Square".  It will be published on Viz Media's "Shounen Jump" line and will have the shortest delay between a Japanese and English publication in Viz' history, the current shortest being the latest "Yu-Gi-Oh" manga series that was released in English before the Japanese 'tankobon' compilation started.

*cough* Blu-Ray *cough* Gurren Lagann *cough*
As much as I love that idea, Only BV are releasing in BD at the moment, as far as I know.

Anyways, Both really unexpected. At least, We know what the hell is going on with Gurren Lagann now. Its a bit sad to hear that they are totally redoing the dub (unless they keep the ADV dub as a second voice track) Because the original did actually have some surprisingly good names in it. I think I'll be waiting out for the R2 release, That way I'll probably end up getting the dub with it. Happy Times. Something must've been happening with the Japanese release of it, because, I think that only just recently ended its run of getting released in its entirety.

BE should get a hold of the rights to the recap movie, while they're at it.

These are two massive titles and its a good start to the NY Comic-Con, as well. ;D

ADV deserved this kicking, I'll tell you that.
You deserve banning.

On a more constructive note, I was pretty worried about the lack of, well, any news from ADV regarding TTGL. If nothing else, Bandai have offered assurance that it'll be released now.

What this bit of news says about ADV's current state is anyone's guess. It certainly doesn't look good for them. :?

Very happy to see Gundam 00 getting licenced as it was one of my high points for 2008 anime so far, and I am really looking forward to it getting a second season in October

I am not really a mecha fan, so I am not as hyped as some will be by this news. Though I was going to give Gurren Lagann as it does look interesting even with the hype put to one side. Now my dilemma is do I double dip on this or do I wait till next year and buy the version with the dub. I suppose I will have to check out price and episode count to see if it is worth buying twice.

And you think that they don't deserve that?

Lets put this into context; they shut down the rather successful Anime Network UK (and in the process proceded to do propeller over), they withdrew from the direct market and are now playing by-proxy, thier big wigs made a total business faux pas by blaming the consumer for point two, PIQ isn't exactly looking like must buy material, and Keroro Gunsou (enough said on that one).

ADV have been nose diving for a good while now and they've done absoutely nothing to pull up.

At this point, ADV can just crash for all I care, it's not as if the voice actors are going to be out a job- most of them work with Funimation and Media Blasters (...well, used to) anyway.

I think what he meant was, you only seem to post when you're slagging something off. I don't think i've ever seen a post of yours that wasn't. :?

i think there was that 1 just before dinosaurs went extinct

either way \o/ Gundam 00. In the past few years i seems to have gone from a ADV fanboy, afraid of anything Beez had and only occasitonally touching funi stuff to being being more of a beez/funi man.

Infact, the last ADV title i bought that wasn't only 13 eps was Noir

It's a pity that I'll have to wait until ... probably 2010 to get Gurren Lagann with a dub track on R2 :/

Good news with Gundam 00, though! That's a great series, and one I'll definitely be picking up when it's released! ^__^

Bandai get Gurren Lagann, Gundam 00

Can someone just clarify something for me.

Are Bandai Entertainment & Bandai Visual USA different?

Actually for the records, Anime Network UK was not successful in the least in the most important senses, without going into much detail as it's not mine to talk of - but it was financially a pretty hefty blow. As for ADV doing Propeller over, it was actually the other way round as well...

On the upside of the news, it means GL will come out sooner and in good releases for everyone!

On the contrary - if coming in 09 you can pretty much be assured that whoever released GL would release the bilingual version in 09 for R2 as well - or so I'd say in my opinion.

For those asking if we'll get it: Watch this space, I'm personally a big fan of the series and would love to release it here, but for the moment I can neither confirm nor deny it I'm afraid.

You moron. ADV are still making quality releases, regardless of who the voice actors are. They still have solid translations and English scripts. Also, them pulling out of the industry would have big repercussions.

Quality , eh?

Yes, because I'm sure Kanon represents the bee-all-end-all of all anime quality.

My only gripe with ADV is that whoever does their encoding is in serious need of an anti-aliasing algorithm. Their releases look stunning, but all the lines are just jagged and disgusting, which totally retracts from any kind of experience. I'm hoping they DON'T pick up Clannad and let someone do a really great encode for it. Now Funimation has picked up the video quality they'd be a good one to release it. Hopefully they'd give it a bit more than the generic single volume + artbox theme that ADV do for absolutely everything. The only thing non-generic ADV have probably done is chipboard thinpaks, which are awesome, although stripping extras out are not good, and the Gantz collection in that ball, oh and the Ah My Goddess artbox, which they had to do to stay in line with the first season, and the fact that they could do that means they're just being lazy with other series. Anyway, apart from all that they've done some absolutely incredible things over the years and I'm sure they'll still be going strong for the years to come.
This isn't the first time they've lost a license to another company.

MADNESS ALERT!!!

Hunter x Hunter is getting released Q4 this year from Viz *updates news with more informations*
Yeah, which is awesome. Although HxH may be ending in Jump in 10 chapters time or so, which if true is pretty lame, considering HxH is the best thing in WJ.
