New Yen Press titles unavailable in the UK?

I’ve recently noticed that a bunch of new Yen Press titles haven’t become available with UK retailers like Amazon or Waterstones in the past few weeks. Books such as Higurashi Meguri Vol. 3, Shadows House Vol. 7, and this week Shy Vol. 8 and Is the Order a Rabbit Vol. 1, are all listed on WS as “temporarily unavailable” and while they can be ordered from Amazon UK, they’re all being delivered from the US. Does anyone know if there’s an issue with Yen Press and UK wholesalers that’s causing this and if it’s only certain retailers being affected? I’m going to London at the end of this month and hoping stores like Forbidden Planet will have some of these titles in store.

The reviewers here have also not received any physical Yen Press titles for September or October (so far). The only feedback I've received when inquiring from Diamond Book Distributors is that 'they are running late' but they should 'receive them shortly'. I note also that NYCC takes place this week and that was (I think) a factor last year in late arrivals for the UK. I'd be really interested to know if you visit FP in London and they have the September/October titles in-store. (Incidentally, some of the popular Seven Seas new titles have only been available from the US on Amazon or distributors like Speedy Hen, so maybe it's not just Yen.)

Diamond are awful in general wrt distribution of manga. The only titles I find that aren't delayed by them by 1-2 months are from Dark Horse.

I actually find Diamond one of the better distributors generally, at least for my area. I never have that much trouble picking up new releases day 1 in my local comic store for Yen (the Kodansha titles are another thing entirely...). Other publishers like Seven Seas I almost never see in a store until months later and Viz has its own silly circumstances of bringing out everything 2 months later than the states! So compared to that I can't really complain. 😅

I think there may well be stock issues over in the states for YP stuff as well right now. It may be a coincidence but a translator I follow was bemoaning the lack of reviews for one of their September releases, which is certainly unusual as it was a volume 1 debut so there's often a few US-based reviewers who tackle them.

I Want a Gal Gamer To Praise Me
This Monster Wants To Eat Me
Cheerful Amnesia
Kowloon Generic Romance
Even A Replica Can Fall in Love (Light Novel}
Shy
Slasher Maidens

These are the titles that I was expecting from Yen Press to be released in September / October but so far not heard a thing.

Blackwells has all of those listed as in stock. My copy of Is the Order a Rabbit Vol. 1 arrived in the mail yesterday.

I emailed Yen Press and got this response

At this time, our terms of international distribution with Diamond Book Distributors are going through a transition. As such, matters related to international distribution are yet to be determined.

We thank you for your understanding and patience and hope to provide updates regarding this matter as soon as possible.

Hi guys,
I ordered two copies of The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t A Guy At All (Yen Press) from Amazon UK and seems that the shipping is delayed. When do you think shippings for the manga would be??

Hard to say with Amazon honestly, even without whatever's going on now I personally find Amazon is really bad for ordering manga from. I assume there wasn't an ETA on the page when you ordered?

They gave me an ETA of 22nd-23rd but there’s none of so far but maybe I just have to be patient?

If it hasn't arrived (with them) by the 23rd, you'll probably get one of these: 'We're encountering a delay in shipping your order. We'll make every effort to get the delayed item to you as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience.'

This might mean you'll still receive your book/s in the next few days - but unfortunately what I've found of late is that they don't (or can't) always give a new delivery date, leaving you with the difficult decision to cancel and look elsewhere or just to hang in there. I've experienced both versions of this in the last year or so.

I hope you're in luck and your pre-orders arrive soon!

So I’ve just come back from an overnight stay away in London (went for Miku Expo which was incredible), and popped into Forbidden Planet today. No sign of the aforementioned new Higurashi, Shy or Shadows House, but I did find and pick up Is The Order a Rabbit. I don’t know if that means Rabbit was the exception, or whether like CommanderZx2 mentioned with Blackwell’s, FP did get all new Yen Press stock and the other three just happened to be sold out today.

Just as an update, the reviewers here have been receiving their delayed requested review titles from Yen/Ize Press - so we hope that forum members have also been receiving their pre-orders at last! :)

Looks like Yen Press are moving to using Hachette UK (presumably ending their use of Diamond? I could be misinterpreting that.) Makes sense given that they're a joint venture with the parent Hachette Group. Wonder it means they'll make more of a marketing effort here in the UK.

They are; there was an official announcement in The Bookseller yesterday (it's behind a paywall) - for the UK it will date from December 16th and the relationship with Diamond will cease from then, transferring to Hachette/Yen Press UK. No further details at this stage.
