It has been confirmed that a second season of "slice of life" drama Honey & Clover will be broadcast on Japanese TV this summer. The first series, which is still unlicenced outside of Japan, aired during 2005 to great acclaim and has since gone on to amass a sizable cult following amongst anime fans.

There is also a live action movie adaptation of Honey & Clover in the works, the soundtrack of which will be produced by none other than legendary anime music soundtrack artist Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop, Macross Plus, Stand Alone Complex).

I have to make a comment about this!

Honey & Clover was my worst anime of 2005 fansub-wise.
I'm sure that everyone else will be overjoyed by having another slice of boredom however! Will it be another uninspired cheesy love-fest in a college or will it continue with the same characters? I doubt I'll be looking to find out anytime soon - not even Yoko Kanno's graceful music can save it - in my opinion!

But I'm sure the cult following it claims to have, will lap it up.

I'm glad it was your worst anime of the year, because along with Monster and Mushishi, Honey & Clover was one of my favourites. Only the greatest anime can inspire such difference of opinion- Evangelion style, and I can't wait to see more.

My guess is that the second season will follow the remaining manga chapters as much as possible, though from what I've heard, there isn't that much material left to adapt so it may slowly move into original territory. I'm not too worried though, the animation style and soundtrack for the first series were all top notch and proved that the animation studio had a real grasp of the material.

And the story now has the nearly perfect Yoko Kanno stamp of approval- so if anyone is doubting researching this show, you should need no further incentive.

Having never seen the series my excitement about this is fairly low. However, another Yoko Kanno soundtrack in the works is very exciting indeed, regardless of the anime quality

Exactly my thoughts. I have a fair few soundtracks by her that I love but didn't like the series/movies they went with.

Omg, i just looked at the wiki, and Yoko Kanno is a female!

How did i not know this :S :O, i can't believe i assumed that she was a man for all these years, then again she only composes things so i wouldn't have heard her voice, but this is brilliant! <3 music by women, this has been one of the biggest pieces of news for me today lol :p

Lol, it just never struck me as being an overly female name to be honest, females seem to be dominating the Japanese music industry or so it seems to me, it seems that there are at least 2x and many artists who are female than male, and the major stars are all female, the only star males are ones in bands it seems. For example, Ayumi Hamasaki - female -single artist, KOTOKO - female - single artist, Mikuni Shimokawa - Female - Single artist, Maaya Sakamoto -female -single artist, now Yoko Kanno - female - composer. Now for the males *cough* (searching brain), all i can think of is the songs sung by male artists in anime such as Naruto + Bleach (most OP's/ED's seem to be sung by females), oh actually come to think of it, J-rock is male dominated, J-pop is female dominated; that seems to work, why didn't i think of that earlier >.> Anyway, dunno where that came from really, i'm such a random person :D

And chances are if you have heard Gabriela Robin singing in anime like Stand Alone Complex, Cowboy Bebop, Macross Plus and Wolf's Rain, you've heard the voice of Yoko Kanno; it's widely regarded as her vocal pseudonym.

That is another piece of news that has been my news of the day, absolutely brilliant, i've seen most of those anime's, and i wondered who was the voice behind the singing in Macross Plus, now i know :D. This woman is truly a musical genius! Where did you find that tasty bit of news btw? and does anyone know how old she is right now? :D

I suppose I should finish the first series before the new one airs.

I must say I'm happy about a new season being made, based on what I've seen of the first its an excellent show, one of the best I've seen from 2005.

By following this here link you can find out everything you need to know. :)

Brilliant! thx for that link. Now why didn't i think oh that?

She seems to have a lot to do with Maaya Sakamoto! EDIT: and Akino Akai!, which is brilliant! There are some, well actually all series listed there that i would love to see in the UK :D

If anyone wants a Japanese musical genius as their idol, this is the lady who you want, <3!

Wow, wow, thats great, i just can't wait for another series, iloved the last series, and although the ending was fine it wasn't as complete as i would have liked, so this really makes me over joyed, hopefully the first series will get a licence to go along with it also :)

It's unlikely to be released in the UK and prospects for a US release aren't good either. Slice of life anime doesn't sell too well outside of Japan, and since it was a ratings success on Japanese TV, the Western publishers will likely have to pay more than they want to for a show that isn't guarenteed to return a large profit.
