The next directorial project for Mamoru ("Ghost in the Shell") Oshii <a href="http://wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/skycrawlers/">has been announced</a>. "The Sky Crawlers" is a joint movie production between Production I.G. and Warner Bros. that is set to be released in Japanese theatres during 2008.

Typically for Oshii, the movie (which will be adapted from a five-volume novel by Hiroshi Mori) boasts a philosophical story built around the visceral trials and tribulations of a group young fighter pilots who are forced into fighting a "<a href="http://www.animeonline.com/index.php?page=news_details&action=details&id=102345">war for entertainment</a>". Original author Hiroshi Mori is describe his work as "most difficult" to put on screen, but was "put at ease" to discover the director would be Oshii. As ever, the soundtrack will be handled by long time collaborator Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, Innocence).

I'm really loving the concept of this film, but the I recently finished reading Ender's Game, so this whole kids-used-as-pawns-for-war concept has been floating around my head a lot lately. Judging by how this sounds, it has the potential to be great - hopefully someone is able to reign in on Oshii's philosophical over-indulgences though.

Your kidding, right? Look at the thmes of the film, you think someone would be able to control his ego over a subject so deep?
