It's been so long since I've seen EVA and I've forgotten so much of it, that I kinda want to watch it again. I just can't decide whether to go for these new movies or the original show..hmm.

Go for the new movies because this is being billed as what Anno would have put on screen given time/budget. As for me... I'm not sure I can endure the trauma again.

I must respectfully disagree. These movies are like icing, but the original series is the cake. If you want to eat icing on it's own you're very welcome, but you'd be missing out. Not to say I dislike the movies, beautiful as they are there's simply no way they can approach the depth of the series in their comparatively short running time.

I dislike "this is what they originally wanted to do" as a selling point* - perhaps it is, but it isn't what they did and what everybody (whose opinion matters) loved at the time. Do I have to bring up the spectre of George Lucas twice in one week?

*besides, wasn't that exactly what was claimed about of End of Eva?

Yeah, I imagine I'd probably feel a similar way. And since I've forgotten vast amounts of the series anyway, I think I'll probably go back for that.

Indeed, I can remember it being a pretty traumatic affair. But my memory of it is too poor to put me off for now. I think I'll definitely be skipping Death and Rebirth and all that jazz though, that would be too traumatic. I've still got scars from the first time I saw those.

That's the answer - go bak to the original series and then watch the movies!
