A new Cyborg 009 anime is in production to celebrate 50 years since Shotaro Ishinomori first created the manga.
The original manga was launched in 1964 and became massively popular but remained unfinished at the time of Ishinomori’s death in 1998 but there was enough material and work in notebooks left to complete the title in 2014. In between the original manga and now there has been four animated feature films and three television series.
Few details have been released about this latest project other than Jun Kawagoe is the director. This will be his second time making Cyborg 009 anime, following Cyborg 009: The Cyborg Soldier which aired in 2001. When more information is released on the project fans can find out about it via updates on Ishinomori Web and the official Cyborg 009 website.
The manga began its run in Shounen King magazine in 1964 and since then it has been adapted into anime numerous times, the most recent being 2012’s 009 Re:Cyborg, a Production I.G film directed by Kenji Kamiyama which will get a UK release in July thanks to Anime Limited.
