Okay, what's going on? Have I become Bill Murray or has TGWLTT been released about three times now?

Bah. I'm used to the ugly blue rectangles by now. At least Manga aren't trying to fool me by omitting the Irish ratings stickers from their pre-release concept art, then actually including them on the final artwork. Beez still win big time on that front for their removable stickers. If only 00 was the Blu-ray... (I'm sensing a trend here)

Yeah, I'll just take it upon myself to bankroll the whole industry...

I don't have infinite money. I'll be saving what I do have for the Blu-ray, if it turns up or not.

Whilst in Japan a lot will be done on Blu Ray, here it'll be films that sold well on DVD, so most likely the most popular Ghibli films, not buying it is the best way of ensuring it doesn't turn up later the way you want it.
People use the same reasoning for unfinished series. If you don't buy it, more won't come out. But there are no guarantees either way. I don't want to buy any more films on DVD, at least not for more than £5, so I won't buy Ocean Waves until that (or a BD release) happens.

Or what the man above (ayase, that is, not God) says.

only buying DVDs for under £5 is one of the reasons for the grave decline in home releases revenues, anime included, and Blu Ray (or downloads) have yet to fill the void.
Well if they want to continue to make money they'd better start filling it. They can't release a new format and expect people to continue to pay a premium for the old one it is meant to be replacing; People do have such a thing as foresight.

For as long as Aion's on his sabbatical, there is no difference. ;)

Consumers aren't going to pay for a format they don't want, and why should they? For now I'm happy to stick with DVD for most TV series, but for theatrical and other high budget anime I'm afraid it's Blu-ray or bargain bin. Besides, if things were that dire Optimum wouldn't have released Ocean Waves in the first place.

Aion won't be pleased that you've usurped his throne, ayase. It might, however, be just what's needed to wake him from his slumber.

And companies slashing the prices of said DVDs, or re-releasing Special Editions, box sets etc etc after the initial release is one of the reasons for people waiting and not buying stuff when it's initially released at full price.

I'm more prepared than most to pay for my anime - I'm saying this as someone who happily pays Japan prices to get stuff as soon as it's released on home video over there - but you'd have to be a mug to shell out for every UK or US DVD you wanted at full price, and this is because companies have taught people that it's not a sensible idea.

My money is not infinite, but I've got enough money to buy whichever books / animes I want. Taht said, my anime bottleneck is actually getting things out of the backlog.

If I see a bargain, I'll grab it though. Which only makes the backlog even bigger. Certain things deserve(d) the double dip (namely GiTS), but I don't think it's the case of Ocean waves. If I get it on DVD, I won't get it BD.

I support the industry by buying the stuff I want that gets released in here. I also buy stuff I've liked before, even if the likelyness of re-watching is small (ie. 5 cm per second - amazing movie, but too depressive for several re-watches)

Hey, we even run an anime website to promote the industry for free! =P

Ocean Waves hit my post box this morning, yes.

ADV and Revelation have taught me to wait for box sets. It was a painful lesson I can still feel.

Already own The Girl Who Leapt Through Time from when it was a HMV exclusive.

I will wait for the bluray release of Ocean Waves. If it does not get a bluray release, there is always Film 4.
