Preordered the Ghibli blu-rays. Already own Casshern Sins region A blu-ray and Gungrave & Desert Punk on Region 1 dvd (thinking of getting the region A blu-ray of Gungrave)

Why is the UK not awesome enough to have the Japanese cover art for the Ghibli BDs?
Probably a little too abstract for us fick Westerners. I actually like the UK cover art, though, and it's better than what the Americans get. Crivens!

Casshern Sins. I'm interested but not enough to pay £30 for the BD (and I'm not buying on DVD). I fear it's going to flop.

Might pick up the Ghibli films at a later date. Casshern sins already looks like its doomed manga,on twitter, are already talking about not releasing part 2 blu-ray.

It's already on Amazon etc, so don't worry.

But if they cancel it, screw them. They can just keep dropping series and wondering why no-ones buying Blu-Rays >_<

So after a grand total of 36 hours on sale, Manga can tell that Casshern Sins V1 Bluray has sold so badly that they can't afford to release Part 2?!?!

Well, you can't say they didn't give it a fair go...

Don't think i'll bother with Manga Entertainment anymore then...thats just diabolical what they did there, hell, its not even Wednesday yet! Obviously they need new "business people" in there since the current crop certainly have no clue whatsoever!

Funny thing is i was planning to buy it next week but i guess i'll go the importing route instead :x

Sadly, I would have thought market research/buzzyness would tell 'em CASSHERN wouldn't sell that brilliantly. Hmm.

edit: that's a point, they should withhold information like this for a good couple of months because it will stop people purchasing things later.

I always feel annoyed when I go to their Twitter and feel as though I am being ranted at. It doesn't exactly encourage me to throw money at them, even though I can understand their disappointment. Declaring that part 2 won't be coming out on blu-ray is surely going to absolutely murder any lingering sales of part 1 though so hopefully they'll take some feedback and build some bridges?

(Incidentally I have no interest in Casshern Sins no matter what kind of disc it's on, but I guess they were hoping for some interest from fans of TvC?)

It's nice that Manga communicate but their some of the things they come out with on Twitter make them sound incredibly unprofessional.

I suspected that the Casshern Sins BD would sell so badly that part 2 wouldn't even be released, though I didn't expect Manga to declare it DOA a day after it came out. Even if the forecast isn't good, it's too early for that.

And seeing as the Funimation release was region locked, perhaps Manga and fans can stop overstating the impact of imports. The problem here, as I see it, is that Casshern doesn't have wide enough appeal and the BD is double the price of the DVD.

They only have themselves to blame in regards to Casshern. Itwas never going to sell, whatever the format.

Are they really expecting anything different to happen with Xam'D when it comes here on BD. A show that is far from a critical success and didn't really set the charts alight in the US.

Casshern and Xam'D shouldn't be the marker, something like HSOTD should be able to truly tell them if it's worth releasing shows on BD or just stick to movies.

HSOTD is a guaranteed seller. Zombies, blood and tits. If that flops, whats the point.

Damn! Xam'd was made for Blu-ray.

If Manga are smart, they'll consolidate the series into a single Blu-ray boxset, and release it the same day as the second DVD collection, or they ought to just cancel it altogether.

Who's going to buy a partial Blu-ray release from them now?

If anyone's worried about Region locking, then you should know that both Casshern and Xam'd are available from Australia, but the exchange rate is a bugger!

I'm not saying I won't be buying Xam'd, but it's not exactly the sort of show that will bring in casual/lapse fans.

I made a promise to myself a few weeks back that I would support all UK BD releases from Manga, so Casshern is in my basket for purchase payday come the end of the month.

Casshern Sins does tempt me, and i would probably go more for the Blu-Ray if i had the money for it. Same goes for druaga, though it is only DVD.

As for Xam'd, i am only going to be buying it in Blu-Ray form, as i believe it's how it should be watched. If that means i have to import it, i guess there we go. But it is a show i feel is very much meant to be watched in Blu-Ray rather than DVD. So yeah, i hope Manga do try to keep their hopes for Blu-Ray, just maybe watch the market progression a bit more also.

I certainly won't be buying Manga Blu-ray now unless it's a complete series or all parts have actually been released. They could also do with announcing stuff before it is out in the US. I've got some US releases, such as Casshern Sins and Xam'd, which I could have waited for if I had actually known they were coming before they were released in the US.

Xam'd is a far more solid bet than Casshern, I would have thought, but I totally agree that HsOTD will be a truly important statement on the state of the market.

I can't understand the reaction of some people to what Manga have said though... the majority of anime makes *at least* 50% of its significant (ie. not heavily discounted) sales to preorders and day one purchases, I would think rough figures would be easy enough to estimate once you have those in. And on top of that what is the problem with having the first set on BD with Manga not releasing the second? People who are saying they are going to import instead almost to "spite" Manga... well, you still have the option of buying the first set from the UK to show Manga how many people are actually prepared to buy it, and even if the second set doesn't come out *then* you can import it. If for some reason you can't import it and you have to buy the second part on DVD, this is exactly what you would have had to do if the BD set had never been released in the first place.

Things people are actually entitled to <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< things people think they're entitled to.
