My thoughts on Outlaw Star

Nostalgia plays a big part - one of the first region 1 imports I got a hold of was the Outlaw Star collection. And who can argue with the OP?

Always end up comparing it with Cowboy Bebop - very different shows plot-wise, but both sci-fi and originally released about the same time. Outlaw star always comes a poor second - enjoyable but nothing spectacular.
 
Classic example of a show that came along at the right time in Western fandom to garner far more approval than it deserved... see Nadesico and a host of other late 90s/early 00s for further gold plate examples.
