MVM UK Anime Club Membership Magazine, Online to read

I'd say the focus is in the points scheme with the mag as a random bonus. It runs irregularly, but lately has been doing articles instead of reviews (because reviews date more quickly). It's not a pro thing like Neo or Impact and it's made made by a non-paid non-MVM individual who does it in his spare time for fun.

(I'm also biased towards it as the mag just started running a comic strip of mine in it, lol. :p ) ^_^
=) interesting, when my memebership expired you were not there and I had no magazine for quite a while.

You'll (hopefully) notice the colour pages look significantly better than the black and white ones - the reason for that is due to the pages being printed by seperate companies... ...Black and white pages keep the costs down for MVM. I'm told it works out at £2 per magazine to produce, so it's kind of an economics of scale thing.
It costs £2 to produce what is essentially 16 sheets of A4 paper printed on each side, most of them in black and white? No offence meant Acteon, but I could produce it for less than that on my home laser printer. Having two different printers print the pages can't be the best way to do things, surely? Have you shopped around?

Not my job to be honest, I just create it in InDesign. The print quality is generally better than a laser printer too, and you have to remember they produce about 1,000 copies at a time (hence economies of scale - not enough to get much of a discount).

Colour printing isn't cheap though, that's probably what drives the cost up.

I should point out that I don't work for MVM, I basically create the magazine as a favour to Tony, who chucks me a few DVD's and covers my costs. If I were to charge him my normal rate for my time to create the thing, it just wouldn't be feasible.

The anime industry is practically run on favours y'know :)

I do hope it becomes big enough for guys like us to be able to live out of it one day =)

But for the time being, I'm happy enough to be little more than a dedicated fan.

With 4 issues costing £8 pound + P&P for each magazine to be sent out as well. Might it be better to simply upload the magazine online for viewing pleasure of members of the club only instead of printing it. Then it could be in full colour and have Other Features not possible in paper publication likes links/ Embed Trailers. It would make the membership a lot cheaper too so instead of paying 15 pound you will have to pay £10-7 which would make it more appealing to join.
