Music Zone enters administration

The end of this BBC article mentions that Music Zone has gone into administration, little more than a year after they brought MVC. This doesn't necessarily mean that any stores will be closing, someone could buy the company or individual stores. (Although I'm not sure anyone will, as sales at specialist High Street CD and DVD retailers are falling thanks to the Supermarkets and the Internet) I can't say I'm honestly surprised or saddened by this news. Music Zone did make an effort, but they weren't particularly good. Most of the anime section at my local store consists of Ghibli films and old ADV releases.

I love music zone, and not just for anime. They're a great all-round shop, and offer lower prices than HMV and Virgin. I hope this doesn't mean anything bad for it.

I agree with Epsy to a degree. I did manage to purchase some fairly reasonable animè from Music Zone, but as an overall store I did manage to get some great DVD bargains (and even a game or two too).

After MVC "bite the dust" so to speak, I was pleased to see Music Zone acting as a kind of substitute store. True, thanks to supermarkets and Internet sites the high street isn't often the first place I look for a "bargain", but Music Zone was nice to have (particulary in Plymouth) as a form of "choice". Obviously nothing has been confirmed that they're closing, but it doesn't look rosey (when you consider in Plymout the likes of Virgin have two stores it makes it all the more - potentially - tragic).

Still, I would love to see a Forbidden Planet open in Plymouth...

Yeah I picked up Nadesico an some GITS dvds from Music Zone along with other things. Would be a shame if anything happened but im sure it wouldn't really affect me if it did though. Or well will have to see?

Great another high street store possibly closing down. It is egtting to the stage where there will only be Virgin and HMV will be the only shops on the street. While I know online is generally cheaper, but nothing beats the convenience of picking up something there and then, and the more stores there are the more likely for there to be something on sale that i would want to buy.

I reckon they bit off more than they could chew by buying out MVC's stores; MVC was already a lossmaker, and Music Zone was an unknown name in the South (where many of the MVC stores were), which didn't help matters.

The Music Zone in Glasgow is closed. Sad. I was in it only a few days ago and got a few bargains, and it's gone =(

On a brighter note, Virgin have a lot of anime titles in their 3 for £20 or £9 each offer, including Studio Ghibli films and Naruto (which equals £3 a disc if you buy it by itself).

Lets see here, 9/13 is...uh ..

70p AN EPISODE?!

And it was cheap before hand!

When I saw Naruto on this offer in virgin today let me tell you I was not happy considering I got it full price when it came out! Teach me to wait in future as far as manga is conserned.

I didn't really look when I was in there on Friday, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't. I did notice that Saikano, Otogizushi and various other Manga titles were in the offer though. Not just Naruto and the stuff you'd expect.

BBC Article from Monday

What the article doesn't say is that 33 stores have been closed since Music Zone went into Administration and won't be reopening. The rest have been brought by Fopp. Anyway, the stores that closed two weeks ago have been reopened. No news on what Fopp intends to do with them though.

My local MZ has reopened into a fop.

In there today and did my bit for preventing a seceond overfiend incident (hid it behind boogiepop phantom when some screaming kids were nearby).

Prices are consitant but the volumes arn't
