Most disappointing series/film?

Martian Successor Nadesico: The Prince of Darkness: Probably my single biggest 'disapointment' I was really looking forward to this, I mean, Nadesico the series is still my favourite mecha series alongside Escaflowne, so it was long awated. The result has made me extremely warry ever to touch anime sequel movies ever again. It put 95% of all characters 'out of character' it tied up about zero loose ends, was too short for what it was trying to do, and generally was a horrible mess. I try to think this never existed when I watch the series. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible.

Oh crap, I can't believed I forgot about that movie.

Yeah, that movie was horrible, I mean, it seemed like the movie only focused on Ruri simply because she was coming off the whole Rei Ayanami craze, but the movie didn't even bother to give more detail on the other characters.

But you know what was worse?

There was not a single mention of Gekiganger!!!

Another movie I should mention:

Escaflowne: Girl In Gaea

This also suffers in the same form as the Nadesico movie, with hype going into it after such a great TV series, but ended up being a massive disappointment.

For one thing, I hated the models of the characters. Hitomi looked chubbier, Allen looked like he was beaten with an ugly stick, Millerna looked like a whore, Merle no longer looked cute and Folken...

God, don't even get me started on Folken.

Another problem similar with Nadesico was that they brought back alot of characters that served absolutely no purpose to the movie.

But the biggest gripe was how quickly Hitomi and Van got together. I mean, one of the main focus on the TV series was the slow build to Hitomi finding out she actually loved Van.

But in the movie, they barely meet each other 5 minutes and she's already saying she wants to be with him. What the hell?

And another thing, what happened to the Dilandau/Selena story? That was another major part of the storyline in the series. Was that just thrown out the window as well?

I usually try not to have high expectations with new anime to avoid this. However...

Devil May Cry. Should have seen it coming, but I really wanted it to be good given how much I loved the games. Such a let down. :x

The first Ghost in the Shell movie is probably the biggest disappointment for me. It's not as good as it's reputation suggests!
GITS wasn't as good as I was expecting it to be either. I still enjoyed it, but it couldn't live up to all the pure WORSHIP I'd heard beforehand. I found it a little bit boring and confusing to be honest.

I enjoyed Innocence a lot more...I'm still going through SAC 1, but I like it so far.

I agree with that to a certain extent, I still enjoyed watching it and it's a far cry from the worst movie I've seen but it was so far up it's ass with it's own philosophy that there didn't seem like any storyline or characters to really get your teeth into. Innocence was a huge step up from the first movie for me. It retained a lot of the philosophy from the first movie HOWEVER there was a strong element of detective work going on throughout and more depth and exploration with the characters to back it up.

Steamboy was kind of dissapointing, i was looking forward to it, but it wasn't as awsome as i had hoped. Still worth the watch though.
Akira disappointed me the first time i saw it. It was late and i was really confused. Watching it again, i can see the brilliance.

I'm a Ghibli fan and i've enjoyed all their films i've watched. Also the Ghost in the Shell film is still one of my favourite anime films. But i can't quite place what i like so much about it.

Steamboy, HUGE steaming dissapointment.

Personally I LOVE the original GITS.
I suppose you have to be interested in the kind of subjects and questions it raised to get into it.

One thing I did find is that I didint like it the first time I watched it, but after multiple watches I love itl.

Lots of Ghibli bashing going on here, personally Im a big fan of both Spirited away and Howl(although to a much lesser extent).

My two cents:)

Hmmm... Anime Letdowns. Don't like Love Hina, don't understand the hype behind that. Also don't like Chobits, also don't understand the hype behind that. REALLY don't like Naruto, REALLY don't understand the hype behind that.

lol.
