More announcements on 10/10/10. Still no One Piece, though

Kinda sad, though, that One Piece won't be released over here. I wonder if it's one of those weird licensing conflicts where another company is just sitting on the rights? Regardless, it's a shame. Luffy should be unleashed on the British public in all his un-4Kids glory.

I though toei were just looking for to much for the rights
Toei are greedy bastards, Turner seems to constantly flout contract law. oh it's a number of reasons.

Manga UK reckon they would need to sell double Naruto for One piece be viable. The first volumes Naruto selling over 10,000 copies and series selling over 170,000 copies so far from the last reports on the figures.

I just wish Toei would release it over here themselves if they think they can get their fantasy sales figures. In the end they are losing out big time as geting half the fee they want is better than no fee at all. They are not going to get a better a deal nowhere else in the UK.

In a way, you can't blame Toei for aiming high. Right now One Piece is basically the most popular story in Japan bar none. Manga Ent. would offer a release avenue over here, but perhaps Toei want to make a bigger push than just straight to DVD? It's still weird to me how One Piece is still relatively obscure outside of Japan and they are probably feeling the same way. Whatever happens, I really hope the show gets another chance over here.

It is the most popular anime in Japan but as you said yourself much less popular in the west compared to other title like Naruto & Bleach. The demand for the UK release is not going to suddenly rise in a few year with no LEGAL distribution method over here, even the Funimation streaming is blocked for UK viewers.

The only way it can get popular in the UK is through some kind of distribution process and the most easy and profitable way would be to give the license to Manga UK at workable cost. If it becomes big a hits as they expect, then they can charge higher fees for the rest of the series.

It's idiotic what they doing, as they refusing their best shot of breaking into the UK market.

Gave up waiting for a UK release last year & ended up getting it from rightstuf.com in the xmas offers as a complete season one bundle, hoping they do season two bundle this xmas.

The only thing I miss from the 4kids dub is the theme song, the funi release is a million times better

With One Piece it is the cost, the licensing issues are with Dragonball.

Ummm, isn't it son'bitch?

Forgot about this.

Manga's gonna own the license to every single anime aside from One Piece. XD

But, I hope they pick up the Revelation licenses and stick them in 15 quid brick sets...
Also, I have no idea about new stuff. DBZ Kai is the only new "big" series and that seems rather unlikely
