With all the anime conventions and events now on-going in Japan and around the rest of the world, some interesting news about the likes of Afro Samurai and Blood (the Last Vampire) TV series are slowling filtering through fan hear-say and rumour onto internet discussion forums.

According to a poster on the AnimeOnDVD forums who was at a recent event held by Production IG, it was announced that the new Blood: The Last Vampire TV series will eventually be known as Blood+ and will start airing on Japanese TV in October.

Also, Production IG president Mitsuhisa Ishikawa was "... very vocal about the link between Production IG and Tarantino, saying that they had never intended to make (the anime) scenes for Kill Bill as the whole company was far too busy putting all its efforts into (Ghost in the Shell 2) Innocence at the time. Tarantino, however, just turned up at the company door saying what he wanted. 'No matter how many times I said no, he just wouldnt shut up', said Ishikawa. 'It was this persistentness that lead to us eventually doing the scene.'"

On the ToonZone forums, someone claiming to be working on Afro Samurai (the incoming anime series starring Samuel L. Jackson) has revealed a few interesting tidbits about the show. Apparently "... Afro as a concept began over 10 years ago in the head of the original creator Takashi Okazaki" and "... right now, the 5 part mini-series is confirmed. But, a video game, hardbound graphic novel/manga, merchandise, and a live-action movie are all in deep contract negotiation."

I wouldn't hold out much hope for it being as edgy and violent as the original OVA, apparently it's set for a 6pm timeslot in Japan, the same time that the likes of Gundam Seed Destiny and Full Metal Alchemist have previously occupied. Basically, it's going to be a fairly polished "mainstream" series; should be interesting to see how it turns out, especially if Oshii is involved.
