The first two completed instalments of the Mardock Scramble film trilogy, The First Compression and The Second Combustion, will be shown back-to-back at the Scotland Loves Anime festival due to take place in Glasgow and Edinburgh this October.

This comes hot on the heels of Kaze UK’s Andrew Partridge announcement of the acquisition of the Mardock Scramble anime film trilogy at last Saturday’s Ayacon 2011 at the Warwick Arts Centre.

Based on the cyber-punk light-novels of Tow Ubukata (creator of Le Chevalier D’Eon), the story takes place in the neon-noir streets of Mardock City and follows a young prostitute named Balot who was taken in by a vicious gambler named Shell. She would have died by his hand if she had not been rescued by Doctor Easter and his self-aware Universal Tool, Oefcoque who takes the form of a shape-shifting mouse. Now a cyborg, Balot has increased physical powers and the ability to affect any kind of electrical system and she’ll need these powers if she and Oefcoque are to survive the machinations of Shell and his assassin, Boiled.

The main cast includes Megumi Hayashibara (Neon Genesis Evangelion) as Balot and Kazuya Nakai (One Piece, Sengoku Basara) as Shell and the films have been scripted by Tow Ubukata and produced by Aniplex. For more information, visit the site (Japanese language)

The Scotland Loves Anime festival will run from October 7 to 9 at Glasgow, and October 14 to 16 at Edinburgh with the full festival line-up of content due to be announced in the next week.

Once again I won't be able to attend SLA this year. I would be far more put out by this news if it was all three movies.

Wait til you hear the rest of the line-up and guests...

At first I thought I read "Murdock Scramble" in the title, then thought "Major Kusanagi meets Stuart Little" when I saw that trailor. It's been a long day for me. I look forward to the DVD releases.

;_; You're going to have Shinkai's new movie, aren't you? And Sawashiro Miyuki as a guest.

Can we at least get someone Japanese at Edinburgh? It's cool hearing from people in the western industry and all, but I'd like to hear from people that actually make what we're watching.

Why not Shinkai himself? Since he was allegedly living in London "learning English" it would give him a good chance to exercise it. Just a thought.

He's unavailable over SLA as he's at NYAF. Who knows for the future though - maybe I have something in mind ;).

All will be revealed in due course ^^.

Oh Andrew you ever enigmatic hunk of UK anime industry man...

Also how about an event equally as good as this happening in London? Its where all the cool kids are don't ya know.

Just curious but whats the chance of the Gurren Lagann films getting a showing this time or in the future?

Easier to take my mates to see a film then ask them to buy dvds.

Hopefully work allows me to see more than i did last year
