For me Monster is the obvious choice on that list. It has a quality that can easily match American dramas in terms of storytelling but will probably be overlooked because of its length. I would be wary about investing into a UK release of it if halfway through the series hey either decided to cancel the releases or perhaps even more annoyingly cancel the sets and release it as one complete boxset meaning I would have to double dip. It's not like they haven't done that before.
I've always thought that if Monster was edited so that each episode was about 45 minutes (basically 2 episodes stuck together) it would do quite well on a more mainstream TV channel. The hour long TV format would lend to the storytelling by not chopping it up so often and also make the length of the series seem less daunting, cutting it down from 74 to 37.
