For me Monster is the obvious choice on that list. It has a quality that can easily match American dramas in terms of storytelling but will probably be overlooked because of its length. I would be wary about investing into a UK release of it if halfway through the series hey either decided to cancel the releases or perhaps even more annoyingly cancel the sets and release it as one complete boxset meaning I would have to double dip. It's not like they haven't done that before.

I've always thought that if Monster was edited so that each episode was about 45 minutes (basically 2 episodes stuck together) it would do quite well on a more mainstream TV channel. The hour long TV format would lend to the storytelling by not chopping it up so often and also make the length of the series seem less daunting, cutting it down from 74 to 37.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! WHY ISNT ONE PIECE THERE!?!?!
I have no idea why but I lol'd at this.

Two questions; when did Xam'd get licensed? To my knowledge it actually hasn't and who has Monster, is it Viz? I remember reading Monster some years ago and enjoyed it, but never got too far, I'd consider picking that up as well, definitely.

Yes, the first set is due out some time in December in the States. Funi has the rights to show it on the Funimation channel in America too apparently but that doesn't really effect us though.

Xam'D's license for DVD remains with Sony in the US last I met Aniplex in March. Aniplex are shopping the license for the EU though so you never know who may end up with it. It's an amazing show though and given the structure of the PSN network, given my understanding of how video will work on it I would say you'll see it hit UK shores sooner or later this year regardless of if on DVD or not :).

As I pretty much buy R1 discs exclusively I am probably not the target audience here. However from what I have heard about most of the things on the list Manga would not be going too wrong releasing any of them. Of course Fullmetal Alchemist probably would be the most sensible thing to pick up as it already has a name for itself over here. Along side FMA they would probably want a couple of shorter shows, or something like Nana if they thought it would maybe bring in a female audience. The biggest factor though would be being able to announce releases before or around the same time as the first disc of any R1 release. This would catch some of the waverers. Then they need to be allowed to work the multi-disc releases at a favourable price point. That would seal the deal for many people.

I agree with unellmay on his two points: One Piece (although FUNi are doing a top-notch job generally) and REBORN! - I'd say if both were coming out, though, unless they have prior knowledge of Reborn!, D.Gray would get the purchase by the average viewer.

I voted for Monster, because I'd love to see a release of it, but I was close to clicking on NANA from not even seeing any of it.

Oh, you wanted a bad dub for Reborn, I see. I thought you were a Reborn fan and wanted to hate on D.G-M. I saw in the other thread your in episode 20... The show only goes up from there, until its down again, then up again...

I don't think their dubs are bad at all the at least have different actors
and with that company it's more likely to come out here at 21 now probably be at 30 something by the end of the day (don't really care bout dubs anyway btw but they would advertise it better Or so I think)

I remembered something about Eva 1.01 and FMA: B + Manga, but I wasn't sure FMA had been confirmed as a Manga license. It's a shame no-one told me before I posted - it ain't my fault.

If they really do have FMA: B, then that's it - D.Gray, Soul Eater and FMA. There isn't any space for any other big name titles while they're still releasing Bleach and Naruto. Considering FMA: B is a remake and the other two aren't that hot, it'll be a bit of a rubbish year for anime in the UK.

My original list was 14 titles + 'Other'. I was only allowed ten options.

One Piece isn't listed because, with Bleach and Naruto, Manga have enough never-ending shounen titles to release. Plus it's old now. They don't need another 400+ episode series with filler. (I've always got the impression it's sold worse than Bleach and Naruto, anyway. I think it also usually gets lower ratings in Japan.)

Macross titles are bitches to release in the US because of Robotech. Macross series tend to conflict with the changes made, making them difficult to release. That's why Zero will never get released - it being a prequel to the original series.

Really, I just want **** I've put on-hold to get released on DVD. I rate DtB 7-8/10 and I'm the same with Xam'd (no setting explanation, no idea what's going on most of the time with monsters, steals ideas from others), but still want them on DVD because of their visual quality, soundtracks and unfinished status on my MAL list. RxJ is another unfinished series I want on DVD, MVM having that license. (I can't wait for the individual releases...)

DtB = Bones + Kanno
Xam'd = Bones + Michiru (not on the same level as her work with FMA, though her music is very recognizable.)

There're instant buys simply because of the names involved.

I just hope *someone* picks the stuff on the list up at some point. We need more quality and less Slayers, Kyo, X and Daphne (not a dig at MVM...honest!) in the UK.

...do we even have 26 posters on this forum?

It's a shame NHK has no votes. 0/26 people wanting it more than something else on the list doesn't say a lot good about its UK sales chances. It's too otaku themed, I guess...

I wish someone from Manga, such as anti-social Jerome, posted on this forum. I want a Beez vs. Manga rep war, and I also want someone who can tell us about Manga's releases and plans. Manga should be trying to please me now that I like them, but no. Hell, they should be offering me a job... but no.

I don't think Manga will release it here any time soon, but:

One Piece has consistently always significantly outsold and outperformed Bleach/Naruto in Japan, both as manga and on anime (going by TV viewership figures). Almost every single Japanese fan I speak to is into One Piece whether they're male or female and no matter what age they are. It's huge over there and to date still shows no sign of losing popularity.

Having said that it's popularity has never translated into success here or the US. Funi's current release strategy seems to be positioning it as a slow burner they're hoping will explode one day. The R1s are so reasonably priced even in their first non-Viridian release that I'm not too worried about its lethargy over here.

NHK is another show I'm very interested in yet the existence of a fairly priced R1 edition makes it hard to pick in this kind of poll over something I'd realistically buy in the UK. Even at Manga prices the R1 is competitive. It would be much more exciting to me to get something "new" (or at least much cheaper than the competition).

Oh, I see. I remembered someone, somewhere mentioning it's less popular - I wasn't sure. The person was probably referring to the US anime and manga releases.

Either way, we don't need DB or OP at this point. Manga are licensing enough standard shounen fare on top of their two long running titles as it is. D.Gray lasts for over 100 episodes - that'll take long enough to release in full.

The NHK box set, like the When The Cry one, would be a good price... if it wasn't over the customs limit to import. As it stands right now, getting a cheapo complete set of either would require a customs charge or paying a lot extra and ordering from a Euro based import store.

I own the first two R1 volumes of NHK and the first three R1 volumes of WTC (plus the art box). Importing either R1 box set for a price when I own some of the DVDs already isn't a priority for me.

Monster has my vote as I don't have this series yet, but there's many good ones listed there. Spice and Wolf, NHK, Higurashi GTO and Gankutsuou are great as well, so it was a tough choice.

Assuming you meant the live action comment; in my local stores the live action "world cinema" is enormous even though the releases are often fairly basic and sub-only. We get a lot of live action manga stuff long before the US, too, for example the 20th Century Boys and Mushishi movies. Of course I haven't seen sales figures and this is conjecture. The impression I get is definitely that there's more of an audience over here for the live action stuff with the anime being more of a niche market within the niche.
According to MVM Cutey honey outperformed all their anime titles by w (or was it 3?) times.
Manga is entering the live-action arena with Blood and I've recently received Kitaro discs. This is growing faster than anime right now and I hope it gets more people interested in Anime as well.

I'd certainly prefer to see them as £17.99 Viridian sets but I can't really gripe about the current ~£30 ones; even though I have to go through AxelMusic instead of a slightly cheaper R1 store it's still about what I'd pay for the Manga editions if they existed.

The customs limit/exchange rate situation at the moment really is very annoying though.

My vote goes to Spice and Wolf

I already own the R1 releases of GTO and Welcome to the NHK.

I am interested in Xam'd, Monster, When the Cry and Macross Frontier.
