Anime UK News has received a press release containing confirmation that Manga Entertainment will release Part 1 of Attack On Titan (episode 1 -13) on DVD and Blu-ray on Monday, September 15th and more information on what the release will have on the discs.

Here are the details from the PR:

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by giants. Giants are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by enclosing themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of giants. Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a super giant that appears out of thin air. As the smaller giants flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Eren vows that he will murder every single giant and take revenge for all of mankind.

Psycho-Pass, Attack On Titan... September is going to be expensive but oh so worth it for some great anime!

I hadn't appreciated this aspect before, but is that why they removed the BD extras and put them on a separate DVD? To provide an additional incentive for the CE?

Genuinely interested to see how well this sells. Obviously it's going to be the year's biggest seller from Manga, but by how much?

Well at least they kept the commentaries.

It's a weird one alright. If I'm interpreting their tweets to Mangaranga correctly, MangaUK did this configuration in the belief that Funi were doing the same or something? Whether it was a miscommunication or a calculated decision, the end result is the same, an artificially inflated collector's edition formed of stuff that comes as standard in both the US and AU (except the box). MangaUK also have to author the discs themselves in order to do it, which is surely even more effort for them than just cloning the US or AU discs. It really makes no sense to me :?

In any case it's going to sell spectacularly well. My sister (who doesn't really watch anime) asked me about Titan after hearing so much about it, so I'll be introducing her to the first few episodes tomorrow.

So collectors get nerfed extras, and everyone else gets no extras. Seems like a bad scenario, why not just let everyone have the extras on BD and the incentive for CE be a nice Funimation quality box?

So that's their excuse.

Unless you really hate importing I don't see why you would buy the UK Blu-ray. Either get the US or Australian release. The standard AUS release not only has the extras on the second Blu-ray but you also get the booklet. Not sure if you get the booklet with the standard US release.

Re: Manga UK Release Attack On Titan on DVD and Blu-ray on S

I see... so Manga UK decided to create their own materials early on (for whatever reason) and they mistakenly thought FUNimation was doing it this way too. It's scary imagining the outrage that DVD-only extras in a non-cheap dual-format CE would have caused in this day and age over there ^^;

Maybe they thought the US sets would have the extras on the CE DVDs (since the main releases are all combo packs in the US) but as Manga UK is selling them separately and the CE is BD-only, they might have thought they would have to redo the discs either way. It sounds as though some kind of massive miscommunication took place and either Manga UK weren't paying attention to the solicitations in the US or they locked down the production way earlier than usual.

I completely agree that a nice box would have been a much nicer way to set the CE apart in the UK. The (presumably) flimsy one shown on Amazon covered in logos and a blue banner really doesn't do anything for me.

So disappointed with this CE. I really thought it might get changed to something better, or at least have an upgraded box. Think I might hold out for a complete collection.

I'm waiting to see if anyone on here buys the set first so I can get a better look at the "box" before deciding where my money goes.

I'm buying the UK release so will post a few pics.

So am I. Being reading the reviews of the US limited release & by all reports its not worth the money.

Re: Manga UK Release Attack On Titan on DVD and Blu-ray on S

Does anyone know if there is anything special/worthwhile on the general DVD release please? If not, I may see if the US general DVD release is better :)

Re: Manga UK Release Attack On Titan on DVD and Blu-ray on S

I can't wait to see what extras Part 2 is going to hold, this is probably going to be the biggest cop up for Manga since the Blu-ray cancellations.
