Anime UK News have received news that Manga UK have been forced to push back the release date of Ninja Scroll. In a statement it was revealed,

Due to unforeseen circumstances Manga UK has been forced to push back the release date of Ninja Scroll to the 26th November 2012.

Manga are delighted to be releasing this anime classic on Blu-ray for the first time and would like to thank fans for their patience and support.

Considering that Ninja Scroll is a classic anime, any delay which means there will be time spent on making this the best possible release is pretty understandable. Stay tuned for more announcements.

Hmm, quick check of Play.com and Amazon had this pegged for 15/10/12 originally.

Annoying to see delays but they've given a fair bit of notice at least.

Yikes, that would be incredibly lame! The trailer is 4:3 so hopefully it's a mistake (assuming that the trailer wasn't put together using the old DVD or something). Not even they can screw up a simple port of the Japanese BD....right? :?

Manga did include a cropped 16:9 version alongside the 4:3 original in the 10th Anniversary Special Edition release...

I'm sure it'll be fine, though sadly it wouldn't surprise me if Manga somehow contrived to mess this up.

The soup thickens. A post on Facebook appears to confirm the 16:9 ratio. I've pointed out the technicality that all Blu-rays are 16:9 by definition and that 4:3 material on Blu-ray has to be presented as pillarboxed, and I'm waiting for clarification.

The Manga UK release of Ninja Scroll on Blu-ray will be uncut (the original VHS and DVD release had 53 seconds missing) and it will be in 16:9 aspect ratio. The UK steelbook edition is region locked to B for UK and Europe only. You can only buy it in the UK and Ireland. We are only making 10,000 copies. Extras include Japanese director's commentary (all new), original TV spots and trailers plus a 20-page booklet written by co-author of the anime encyclopaedia, Jonathan Clements. Available to pre-order now from HMV.com, Amazon, Play, Zavvi and The Hut. Out 26-Nov.

My interest in this is beginning to fade though.

I'm hoping that Jerome is just a bit confused, bless him, and that he'll soon put our fears to rest by confirming that the film is indeed in its correct 4:3 aspect ratio. As far as I'm aware, the Japanese Blu-ray did not include a cropped 16:9 version and Manga will be using those materials. Surely there's no reason Manga would take it upon themselves to crop the image... is there?

:-\

And sanity prevails!

"Well! This is embarrassing for me, but great news for you. We’ve just watched a QC disc of #NinjaScroll BD and it is in 4:3 after all! Further more, I have learnt that Ninja Scroll was made as an OVA release originally, not theatrical, so 4:3 is it’s original aspect ratio after all. You were right. A 16:9 presentation would have meant the picture would have been stretched to fit the frame."
