As promised, when Manga Entertainment obtained their 9000th follower, they announced their new license - Angel Beats. The series will be released on both DVD and Blu-ray, and although no date has been announced, MangaUK have said an April 2012 release is what they're hoping for. The series was released in North America by Sentai Filmworks.

The company also hinted that they have bigger news to announce at the upcoming MCM Expo.

Angel Beats is a 13-episode series produced by P.A. Works and Aniplex. The following description is from Wikipedia:
Angel Beats! takes place at a high school acting as a Purgatory, where students learn to give up any lingering attachments they still have from life before continuing to an afterlife or reincarnation. While the injury or cause of death are gone, those in the afterlife school can still feel pain or other things as they did when they were alive, as well as dying again, only to awaken with no injuries several minutes later. The story follows the main protagonist Otonashi, a boy who lost his memories of his life after dying. Upon awakening in the afterlife, he meets a girl named Yuri who invites him to join the Afterlife Battlefront (Shinda Sekai Sensen (SSS)), an organization she founded and leads which fights against God for the cruel fates the SSS members experienced in life. Their only enemy in the world is the school's student council president Angel, a being with supernatural powers who fights against the SSS. Yuri believes that anyone who follows Angel's orders and behaves like a normal student at the school will eventually disappear and pass on. However, those who fulfill their dreams in the afterlife will pass on as well.

Eh...T'was good, but there is better recent Blu-Ray-able shows... Although, its does have one of my top 'funniest moments' in anime: Rocket chairs.

The character designs are great but I hear the show's tone wavers between comedy and overwrought melodrama - not a good combination in my book. Still, at online discount prices the Manga UK version would be more tempting than importing.

@Robert88UK V.glad u r all so excited for #AngelBeats. The plan is to release on BD and DVD.

@nickreviews We are aiming for Spring. April hopefully.

Manga's twitter account says it's on both DVD & Blu-Ray with a (hopeful) release date of next April. I already own the Region A Blu-ray though (got it back around May).

The show itself is terrible but I really enjoyed it so I'll be buying, not sure how they handled TK dubbed, it kinda ruins his charm watching it in English. C'MON, LET'S DANCE.

Excellent. I was recently considering getting the american version of this but now it's got a uk release, i'll wait for that :)

Edit: April? Hmm. Depending when in April (if it's before 13th) i'll buy it at Kitacon rather than preordering it ^_^

This is Awesome news YAY!!! Now I'm hoping for Air TV, Kanon and Clannad, this has given me hope for those shows to be released here. *fingers crossed* :D

I wouldn't be surprised to see Clannad. It must have done well for Sentai seeing as it's had sub-only and bi-lingual DVD releases, and there's a forthcoming Blu-ray release.

Apparently Manga will be announcing a new license at the Expo...

I asked MangaUK if they plan on licensing "Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos" and the Brotherhood OVAs. Their response was:

"Maybe".

So yeah, I'm guessing they're going to announce that. Also, I'd love for them to announce Madoka Magica...

Sold. I didn't realise it was the Seto No Hanayome dood directing it (though seeing it now, it's totaly obvious), but the only real drawback is the episode count (it could have done with being 26 episodes) but it was a good series that didn't fall into the same Key trap of 1 IQ girls going UGUUUUUU and geting killed in horrible, brutal ways.

Oh that still happens (the killing, I mean) but it's actauly a good point of the story.

Also, Rawket Lawnchair.
