Manga for Holidays!

I'm off on my hols tomorrow and I'm planning on heading into town (Sheffield) this lunch time to get a couple of mangas to read while I'm there.

Now, I've been an avid anime follower for a few years but I've never actually read any mangas so I'm looking for requests if possible :)

I'm currently thinking about buying the first few Trigun books.

What anime do you like and have seen so far?

I'm going to recommend you these, they are always good ;p

Monster - Like a thriller kind of mystery manga. About a well paid and happy surgeon who one day he is ordered to forgo operating on a critically injured man in favor of a more illustrious patient. Disillusioned by the hospital's politics, he decides from then on that he will do what he thinks is right, regardless of politics.Some time later, a young boy and his twin sister are brought in. The boy has a bullet in his head and requires an operation that Dr. Tenma knows only he is capable of performing successfully. Just as Dr. Tenma is about to begin the procedure, the mayor is rushed into the hospital and the director instructs Dr. Tenma to leave the boy to operate on the critically ill mayor. Dr. Tenma decides that he will do what is right and go ahead with the boy's operation. The young boy's operation ends in success but the surgeons operating on the politician fail. As a result, Dr. Tenma is passed over for a promotion and his fiancée calls off their engagement. Soon after this incident, strange murders begin to occur, all of which benefit Dr. Tenma greatly. As a result, he becomes the prime suspect although the police have no evidence against him. It seems that the boy whose life he saved is heavily involved in it somehow and that there is much more to him than meets the eye. (Pasted this from animenfo, I haven't read it myself, I will soon, but its supposed to be excellent).

Death Note - About a honor collage student, about 17 I think, who finds a book, the death note. Anyone whose name is written in this book, will die shortly. Quite a lot of people like death note, its really popular and definitely worth trying out.

Fullmetal Alchemist - About two brothers who try to use a alchemist ritual sort-of thing to bring back their mother from death. Unfortunately, the ritual goes wrong, and one of the brothers is left with a full metal body, and one is left with a metal arm. Its very good and very gripping.

Naruto - The manga is good, but the anime is filled with fillers (135 I think). A comedy / action about a boy, Naruto Uzumaki, who wants to become the hokage (Like the top guy) of the leaf village.

Yes ~ i would most definately reccomend Death Note. Cleaver storyline, fantastic art and some awesome characters.

Hellsing for the good ol' ultra-violence. Very gory, and possibly the most bad ass character ever.

Yotsuba&! ~ really cute, funny story by the author of Azumanga Daioh [another great comedy] about a young girl moving to the city where she's never lived before. She marvels at all regular things and hilarity ensues. Very reccomended.
 
Death Note, Bleach, Zombie Powder, Van Von Hunter, Clamore or Genshiken IMHO.

They are all great.

Just wiki them, wiki will explain better than I will ;) ;)
 
Even if you've seen the anime, the manga counterparts of Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden and Chobits are often touted as the better of the two. The former is good for a few fan service-flavoured laughs, the latter is romance with a sci-fi twist.

I really, -really- second the recommendation for Yotsuba, which is just plain awesomeness in a book, really.

You should flick through a few pages of whatever they have at your bookshop, and some should grab your interest depending on the genres you like.
 
Fullmetal Alchemist as said above, Rurouni Kenshin, Saiyuki, it all depends on what genre you're into, really. I'd highly recomend One Piece however. Still hasen't ended, has a nice story line, different groups of enemies, awesome characters who you'll take an imediate liking to and it has a nice amount of comedy for the icing on the cake ^^. Wiki-away.
 
Yotsuba. It's refreshing like a spring breeze and in the coming summer heat you can sit outside and not be overwhelmed by complex plots. It's just kinda relaxing.

I'd say the best manga to read to just relax in my experience is ARIA.

To be honest, theres not a great deal of plot, but ut the way the lack of plot is dealt with makes it enjoyable. Not sure if it's for everyone due to its laid back way, but I'd definitely say its worth a shot.
