Right, another themed week down, another one up, this time Mai-Hime. So for the next two weeks this'll be stickied. There is one thing i'll ask though of people, can someone confirm the box-sets release date? I saw it originally being the 18th of May, but that doesn't seem to be the case now, so if someone can tell me if its changed, it'd be much appriciated.

On the subject of the series, i'm basically in the same position with the series as i was Trigun in that i've only seen the first DVD of the series. Was quite interesting from what i saw though, so i'll be interested in getting more and seeing how it goes. Ryo seems to be our resident Mai-Hime know-it-all so i'm sure he can answer this and that ;p

I really am going to rewatch and join in on this one, as I love the series to bits.

Favorite characters are definitely Natsuki and Nao.

As mono said, possibly one of my favourite series of all times.

Though i'm still not sure if i prefer the manga story to the anime one, they're both good.

Fav chars would have to be Mai, Haruka, Natsuki and ofc Mikoto, and the sooner they decide to make a 2nd series (which has been rumoured for a while) the better

incidently anyone who hasn't see it yet should have a looksie at this :D

My-Hime (or Mai-Hime) is also one of my favourite anime. the animation is good, story is nothing special but manages to execute it in an interesting way and finally the comedic parts of the show did make me chuckle.
i may have pull out my R1 dvd's and watch this show again soon...

oh now seems a good enough time to mention

anyone who calls it "My" hime will face "my" wrath ;)

i somewhat grew to like both iterations of the name. because it is a pun (as i recall....well at least i think so lol ) so if it was 'My' or 'Mai' it works both ways imo

Natsuki and Mikoto are my fav chars.

I've watched Mai-Hime right before I've got my mobile, which were named Natsuki-chan for it.

I haven't seen the movie, but I've seen the original series and I've read the manga. I'm particularly fond of the way the series and the manga differs, which kept it an interesting read all the way.

This series had one of my favorite OP/ED combos, that's for sure. Probably not far behind the original FMA OP/ED, Macross F when "Lion" is the OP, and Evangelion. And one of my favorite insert songs.

I'll let Ryo break it to you about that movie trailer. ^_^

I'm gay, therefore unexcited by a grossly exaggerated version of the female form; is there any appeal to Mai-Hime for me?
It tells a good story with some quite shocking twists. It's not one of my favourite shows but it's entertaining when the focus shifts away from the fluff that drags down the early episodes. Also, the character design isn't overly voluptuous; aside from the main character, the girls are realistically proportioned. As I recall, anyway. My-HiME is clearly a show aimed at heterosexual young men, but I think it has appeal beyond that demographic.

odd, the opening and ending are ok, but weren't exactly most listened to by me, specially not compaired to FMA or lions (which is one of my all time favs)

as for the trailer, i don't know if i dare break it to poor ikkle Chaos

he may start a vendetta against sunrise ;)

No, I guess not outside of the context of the show. But in terms of when I was watching it, I thought the OP and ED were perfectly suited.

Dare I ask? or is it the waht you always curse sunrise for Ryo? If I remember something about it never seen the sunlight...

it's a double feature, you'll also notice at the end of the series *spoiler doesn't ruin series but won't make sence unless you know bout mai otome* Arika makes an apperance right at the end, also Nina appears in the opening

I thought this was a very good series. The story didn't drag you all over the world and even though it was all really happening in one school, it was both easy to watch and it had it's fantastical moments.

The designs of the "childs" themselves were a highlight in my view. When Kagutsuchi rises, the sky errupts in flames from a massive creature, but in general retrospect, I liked the fusion of fantasy/technology in the biomechanical designs of the creatures. Just the whirling of gears and turbines from them builds up the feeling of "you know what's coming next," which makes it fun.

Finally, I like the tension between relationships and the HIMEs/childs. When everyone gets drawn into fighting each other forcefully, that's when the real fireworks blew up.
