I figured this should have a thread of its own, because this is rather unexpected.

During the Smash convention over at Australia, Madman Entertainment have announced a new set of licenses, many of which are rather surprising:

amagi-500x281.jpg

- Amagi Brilliant Park
A mysterious but pretty transfer student, Sento Isuzu, asks Kanie Seiya out on a date to an amusement park. That park was Amagi Brilliant Park, featuring worn-down attractions and lackluster service — the worst in Japan.

- Kuroko's Basketball (Kuroko no Basket)
An up-and-coming power player, Taiga Kagami, is just back from America. When he comes to Seirin High School, he meets the super-ordinary boy, Tetsuya Kuroko. Kagami is shocked to find that Kuroko isn’t good at basketball, in fact, he’s bad! And he’s so plain that he’s impossible to see. But Kuroko’s plainness lets him pass the ball around without the other team noticing him, and he’s none other than the sixth member of the Miracle Generation.

- To-Love-Ru ~ Season 1, Motto, Darkness, Darkness S2
The story is about Yuuki Rito, a high-school boy who cannot confess to the girl of his dreams, Sairenji Haruna. One day when coming home and sulking in the bath-tub a mysterious, nude girl, appears out of nowhere. Her name is Lala and she comes from the planet Deviluke, where she is the heir to the throne. Her father wants her to return to her home planet so she can marry one of the husband candidates, but she decides that she wants to marry Rito in order to stay on Earth.

- Yowamushi Pedal
Onoda Sakamichi is a rather timid, anime-loving first-year student at Sohoku High School. Upon entering high school, he tried to join the anime research club, but after meeting Imaizumi Shunsuke, a renowned cyclist since middle school, and Naruko Shoukichi, who swept the Kansai cycling championship, he ended up joining the competitive cycling club.

This is great news because this is a good sign that the UK could get these one day!

Other Notes from SMASH!:
- Crowd funding older titles? Lots of planning involved, kept an eye out but never say never.
- Boruto the movie is coming to theaters on October 10th.
- Eva 3.33 and NGE BD? 3.33 is soon(TM) and series can't be announced till after 3.33 release.
- Gundam Build Fighters? Nothing in the pipeline for that, but Origin is coming from Japan.
- Is it easier to import releases from Japan or in house? Rebellion worked well, but it's all about the market.
- Knights of Sidonia? No word yet.
- Kuroko's Basketball is currently subtitle only and DVD only.
- Love Live Film will be coming to theaters on Sept. 12th - Includes, autograph boards, and LLSIF codes.
- Madman want to try and get as much anime on TV as they can, but it's all about the TV networks and their budgets.
- More back catalogue on BD? Yes, very fan popular ones coming soon.
- Mushishi S2 is coming for home release, nothing confirmed yet for dates.
- Sailor Moon BDs? Soon(TM), waiting on new masters and want to do right by the fans. DVD only Sailor Moon though at this stage, BD will be looked at after the 'magical' HD remaster is out.
- Thoughts of anime industry with Hanabee and Siren? "Don't ask such hard questions!" Love competition.

Sentai Filmworks already have Amagi Brilliant Park and the To-Love-Ru series while Discotek Media have Yowamushi Pedal. No one in the US have licensed Kuroko's Basketball. Heck no one in the UK have licensed any of these.

So far only Kuroko's Basketball is available to watch legally via Crunchyroll and Daisuki. The others are also on Crunchyroll but only for US & Canada.

Some licenses i'd love to see released in the UK. Sailor Moon remastering is something I really want, when it's done right i'll buy the show on BD, but not until then, Viz really screwed up here.

can someone explain what they mean by this?

BD will be looked at after the 'magical' HD remaster is out.

Are they referring to a Japanese remaster? (stealth edit - just read about Toeis remaster)

Interesting to read about Mushishi season 2 after Andrews Comments yesterday....i'd like to add 2 and 2 and state that they will eventually release it.

I wonder if this is the same for Manga too or whoever might pick it up. This is quite exciting that a BR release for NGE is on the cards somewhere. Makes me simultaneously more excited for 3.33 and more frustrated at the constant pushbacks.

Wow, that's really soon. Definitely will consider an import if it's a BR release and there are no current MVM plans. I don't think they've commented on the movie yet. Has this been confirmed for a BR release?

Forgot to mention - the date is for their theatrical screenings, same goes for Boruto.

Don't expect a BD until 2016.

From what I heard, Viz were perhaps misled and two SM remasters were produced, a good one and the one Viz got.

Mexico got the nice one too, but it sounds like it took a lot of work, as Toei are protective of it and originally tried to give them the master they gave Viz and the Mexican licensor were having none of it. Apparently they had to agree not to reprocess the remaster in any way, and had to take it as is.

One theory is that Toei may have deliberately sabotaged the US release to try and avoid US to Japan imports, either way it sounds like it may take some engineering from Madman to get access to the good remaster.

Ah right, thought that was incredibly fast. Oh well.

Nichijou was popular, right? Right?

I'd still like a fancy Anime Limited Blu-ray set if possible. I guess MVM could work with them for a fancy Nichijou set, since they're trying new things.

Madman are still the only label to release Mind Game w/ English subs aren't they? Desperately want that one on Blu-Ray

Haven't Anime Limited licenced Amagi Brilliant Park.

I'll probably get Discotek's release of Yowamushi Pedal but i'll definitely be getting Kuroko no Basket.

I recall Anime Limited sparking some interest in the show (as well as other KyoAni titles) but so far it's unlicensed over here. If anything I can see Animatsu picking it up with their relationship to TBS (as they say) and Sentai.

Discotek has both seasons of Yowamushi Pedal which is great. I know they plan to release both seasons subtitle only on DVD but if it's the only way to help support sport titles then I don't mind picking them up on that format.

I imagine Animatsu will get the majority of these, cespecially as they've expressed intereste on Yowa Pedal and Kuroko's a basketball

I'm pretty sure Jerome wanted Haikyuu!! not Kuroko's Basketball but I don't mind him getting both.

Seems like weird acquisitions for anybody in the UK. I thought the recent success of sports shows was based almost entirely on the BL fanbase, is the UK BL fanbase really big enough to support a 75 episode long series (Kuroko's)?

And we know Kaze probably won't have it for the UK, as they have Kuroko's for France and there's no mention of UK rights on Viz Europe's site.

Yeah, I mean my gut instinct would be that there wouldn't be much of a fanbase for em here as they seem so niche - but the basketball shows seem to be incredibly popular on Crunchyroll for some reason.

I assume you two haven't seen the series? I recommend both Kuroko and Haikyuu!!

I would love to watch YP but region restrictions sigh.

Out of the blue news about Kuroko no Basket, I felt like it'd always be unlicensed. If and when a BD becomes available I'll order. Don't see a UK company risking a 75 episode sub only release tbh.

Amagi Brilliant Park is just itching for a UK company pick-up. It's on my "to buy" list either way. Tiramy alone make that show worthwhile.
