Imagine being a 19 year old teenage boy with raging hormones living in a dormitory full of girls. Sounds great, huh? Well for Keitaro Urashima it is far from paradise. After failing his Tokyo U entrance exams (not once, but twice!), he decides to take a little vacation away from home to concentrate on his studies. Where does he plan to do this? At his grandmother’s "hotel"—Hinata Inn.
Talk about loser. Other than having no brains, Urashima is a loser amongst women. Having a photo book full of sticker pictures of only himself in each and every picture is a dead give away of this fact. So other than being a loser among women, what else is he? Well, after accidentally catching one of the female tenants, Naru Naruseguwa in the hot spring and many more unfortunate encounters with the other tenants, the first impression of him was not any better than how life viewed him. They, especially Naru, objected to the idea of him living under the same roof, since he came off as a pervert when they first met. However, Aunt Haruka with a little white lie has convinced the girls to accept the idea of Urashima living with them as the temporary landlord. It seems the only person who has taken an interest in him is Shinobu, the shy and quiet girl of the dormitory. But things go sour again when everyone discovers about Urashima’s fib of being a Tokyo U student. The girls are angry for being deceived and poor Shinobu feels disappointed. He is then cast out of the dormitory, only to have Aunt Haruka save him again. This time Urashima is given full ownership of Hinata Inn from his grandmother, who happens to be touring the world. So you think Urashima’s life gets better now? No. It gets worse, other than being scorned as a lecherous guy, and not being able to eat at the same table, they make him do all the housework. Poor Urashima.
So why does he want to be accepted into Tokyo U so badly? The answer to this is that he and a childhood girl friend had promised to reunite in the future at Tokyo University. Romantic, ne? Who is this girl? What will happen if he finds her? What will happen to the budding friendship between him and Naru?
Though rated PG-13+, the reader can clearly tell that Ken Akamatsu was or wants to be a hentai artist. Akamatsu seems to try and put Urashima and any of the other girls of Hinata Inn, especially Naru, in predicaments that lead to awkward/provocative poses. His drawing of each female lead is in everyway unique and perfectly matches their personalities. The way he draws each of their body figures is nicely done, which is good news for the male readers who like "eye candy." Don’t get me wrong, though. Even though some of his females are drawn with overly large breasts, they aren’t detailed enough to be labeled hardcore porn. As for the male drawings, it looks as though the only effort into drawing a decent looking male was when he drew Urashima. Though rather dorking looking, there are times when he can display a "cute" side.
As for the storyline, it’s a good manga to read if you’re interested in a romance novel that’s geared more towards Comedy-Romance. The only negative aspect that I found in this manga is that there’s too much dialogue on one page, which sometimes makes the dialog boxes so hard to read that it hurts the eyes. Well i'm off to read vampire D novel. ^^.
