love anime film 4

All I'm saying is that it seems a bit of a waste. Film4 is supposed to be a diverse channel that plays as much arthouse as it does hollywood, its the perfect existing channel to get behind anime. Its great that they show Ghibli, but it would be nice if they branched out into other anime titles. I'm sure they couldn't air films that have not been domestically released (eg Galaxy Express 999) due to the cost, but what about things that are already licensed?

Diverse, yes. However I think that a lot of people who watch Film4 are people who well...just want to watch films. OK we should have a few more anime films, I agree with that, but they can't just go "oh yeah we should do this more often!" They can't cater for just 1 group, they have different groups to cater for as well as us Anime lovers. It also costs a bit of money as well.

I think another reason why they're using Studio Ghibli movies is because it appeals to the masses. The sucess of Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle here have spurred an audience where they may not know what anime is, but they enjoy films like that, therefore once they find out who made it they can try other films from that company. It just appeals to more people.

Long ago, in the before time, Channel4 used to show a fair bit of anime in the late night slots. Even the beeb showed some! But this was mid 90's when the internet was slow and didn't contain everything.

If they did show other anime on FilmFour or C4 its either got to be something that will get good viewing figures or it will get dumped on the graveyard slot.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky - Thursday 10th Dec, Film 4, 11am and Tuesday 15th Dec, Film 4, 4:05pm

Also I saw Kiki's Delivery Service in their Christmas trailer, but no date yet.

I might just be able to make Castle in the Sky, all depends if I can shove my family off the TV. I wish I had Freeview in my room (crappy signal means 0 channels)

I'm not too fond of Ghibli stuff... For me it feels a less appealing yet similar to "The Last Unicorn" which I saw as a kid. But maybe that's part of how those films are accepted by average people, most people in my age group saw The Last Unicorn when they were young.

... Lol I just looked up the wiki for Last Unicorn... it seems that... the studio that did the art for The Last Unicorn, eventually was hired by Miyazaki, and then a bunch from there went on to form Studio Ghibli... :p I guess my weird comparison wasn't off. :p
