Looking for new anime to watch...

Diamondis

Hikikomori
Hey all, I've been looking for a new anime to watch for some time now but I can't decide. So far the ones I watched and loved are:

Death Note
Hellsing
Blackjack (The Movie)
Ninja Scroll (The Movie)
FullMetal Alchemist
DBZ (Long time ago lol)
Elfen Lied

I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them right now. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might like from what I've listed? I watch all my anime off of streaming sites so trying to pick from all titles A-Z is daunting x.x;

Thanks! :)

To be honest i don't think many people here will be happy giving reccomendations to someone who watches all their anime illegally.

Since I own 6/7 series/movies on that list I don't consider it illegal to watch those 6. If I could find anime where I lived without having to import it I would gladly. I have no choice but to use these sites.

to be honest 90% of the anime i watch is fansubbed,
i only really buy the movies if i see them in the shop.

i'm unemployed so i struggle to buy cigarettes most off the time
i pay for the internet and the internet has everything.

^ This.

Any recommendation I would give would be a series that already has a full release, and no doubt you would watch it fansubbed. I'd prefer not to fuel your illegal activity.

Hmm... Well I like dark toned anime like elfen lied, and i'm a fan of pretty much anything with a vampire lol. Stuff with a long story-arc like Death Note is a hit with me as long as its intelligent. Call me odd but I do like tragic anime... ones with deaths of main characters or major characters that u get attached to like L from Death Note or Hughes in FMA

So basically, dark themed animes, long story arc anime or tragic anime. I'm finding it hard to describe what I like >.> harder to do than I thought.

Oh, and I put some spoilers for 2 anime series after the words 'attached to like' just incase someone hasnt seen them lol highlight if you wanna know.

That's your choice, but tbh... I don't really care what you prefer since it has no affect on you. So I watch my anime online, as i'm sure many members of this site and many other sites do. If I like the anime I will buy it to have it whenever I want, and for the superior quality from a DVD.

Oh but it will have an affect on me and all the other people who buy DVDs if the industry gets ruined because certain people like yourself couldn't be arsed to support what we enjoy (some of us more than others it seems).

But I'd rather not get into an argument on something thats already been discussed several times already.

Just randomly watch stuff, geez, if you're not spending any money there's nothing to lose burning your eyes on terrible shows in between good ones.

And spoiler warnings without mentioning the show names before spoiling are idiotic. Nobody here or anywhere has seen every anime ever.

So come on guys I'm now putting you on the spot....

If I said recommend something thats dark, non-mecha, psychological, drama... something like to me, what would you suggest?

Oh and perhaps something else thats simular to 'Voices From A Distant Star' - that has the romantic element but no kiddie humour....?

Hope your brains feel picked ;)

Serial Experiments Lain fits all of those categories. But you might want to make your own thread Chronos, rather than resurrect someone else's that went badly.

If you haven't tried out everything involving Satoshi Kon, but liked Perfect Blue (I seem to recall you mentioned it before), I suggest Tokyo Godfathers, Paranoia Agent, Paprika and Millennium Actress pronto :)

The most obviously similar currently hyped counterpart to Voices is 5cm Per Second but The Place Promised in Our Early Days by the same creator is another good one that gets slightly less mention for some reason.

5cm is possibly the most beautiful, touching anime I've seen. All of Satoshi Kon's stuff is great. Millennium actress is a favourite of mine.

And Makoto Shinkai is pure poetry. Slow paced, beautifully executed, it's almost unbelievable to think he does that all by himself.
