Killzone 2

Damn, this is a pointless debate.

Many times I've heard "it does nothing to set itself apart from other FPS" but bloody hell what FPS does? In core essence they are pretty much all the same. I can pick up any FPS and know the controls without having to look them up.

I quite like Killzone 2, played a tiny bit of the first one in a shop and didn't like it. I myself don't give a toss if anyone else likes it or not.

Anyway, Destructoid Killzone 2 Review "a proper review"

You clearly haven't played Perfect Dark. Besides your point about "the core" is redundant. Racers are the same at their core. Platformers are the same at their core. RPGs are the same at their core. We have the word "genre" for a reason.

Oh please. Get off your high horse. An in depth review doesn't make it a good one. There was absolutely nothing in that review that made it sound like the game is worth rating above a 9/10. Going by what they were saying about it, that was more like a 7.5/10 at the very most.
 
Yes, I have played Perfect Dark. You point your gun at the enemy and shoot. What else is there to it?

Have you played Killzone 2?
 
I don't understand Maxon's hysterical dislike of reviewers. They are employed to review games because of their expertise. Like it or not, but a Eurogamer, or even an IGN, critic's opinion on a game is worth much more than yours' or mine.

Is it just because this is a PS3 game that you've railed against it so?

When it comes to the very same game that is advertised on their site that they are reviewing, it's debatable whether the reviewer's opinion is better than our own. If you remember the gamespot debacle, which a game reviewer got fired for reviewing Kane and Lynch lowly when Eidos paid the site to advertise Kane and Lynch, you can see why some people don't want to listen to reviews.

I'll jump here. Erm basically your saying a reviewer's opinion is worth more than our own...yet that seems rather...well..crap to be honest. I look at a review nowadays from official review sites and they all tend to be biased now. Not only that, but when i ask a friend for their opinion on a certain game that maybe ranked 6 or under, say, their opinion usually strikes me as far better. No, they aren't official reviews like those at IGN or as you say, Eurogamer, but they review for fun, and they generally appear far better at it. Noone's opinion, whether they get paid to put it to paper or not, is worth more than others, thats stupid.

Also for the record, i've yet to own a PS3 or look into Killzone 2, but that doesn't mean i won't. My brother owns a PS3, so i've had a go on it and have nothing to complain about with it, bar its lack of BC. Heck i even bought Valkyria Chronicles without getting a PS3 first ;p
 
Well, basically yeah. Most of the games i've bought in the past 6 months have been bought before reviews are out or don't get reviews in english because they aren't released outwith japan. I judge a game from what i see of it, not by some guy who's paid to review said games' opinion. If a friend recommends a game, its usually cause he/she knows i like games similar to it.

No because I am a consumer and a gamer. My opinion matters just as much; maybe even moreso since I pay to play games. They get paid to play games and get their thoughts published. That is the only difference between them and me. You must be really deluded to think a reviewer's opinion matters more to a company than the general public.

Yes. Go ask IGN what they thought of God Hand, then go ask a gamer what they thought of God Hand. Are you seriously telling me that a few people's opinions are worth more than an entire market?

By the way, when are you going to tell me what's good about Killzone 2 from your own perspective? If you're not going to then stop wasting my time by avoiding the issue.
