Killzone 2

I got it as part of a deal when I got my PS3. I probably won't play it much. It just doesn't look that interesting.

Wasn't 'Kill Zone' the title for an episode of Hellsing?
How is that relevant?

Killzone isn't the sort of game that i would normaly buy but im pretty addicted to it at the moment, not so much the campaign mode -which i am yet to finish- more the online is what i play most of. The only thing that has really distracted me from playing killzone 2 is Resident Evil 5.

I generally don't like FPS games (though the outstanding Half Life games have changed my opinions somewhat) but Killzone 2 looks really, really good. The PS3 + Killzone 2 set for €400 I see everytime I go into GameSpot is so tempting :/

The first Killzone on the Playstation 2 is one of my all time favourite games and quite possibly my all time favourite first person shoot'em up game on the Playstation 2. Killzone 2 on the Playstation 3 looks really amazing and exciting and 10 ten times better. Killzone 2 will no doubt be my all time favourite first person shoot'em up game on the Playstation 3 once I have got my hands on this game.

I'm rather confused that a rather underwhelming FPS helped change your mind slightly when there are far better FPS games before it didn't even change your mind.

Didnt like this game at all, the controls are sluggish, the graphics are incredibly dull, gameplay is VERY frustrating at times and the multiplayer is average at best.

This one is going to stay on my shelf indefinitely whilst i go play resistance 2.

You're really understating Killzone 2's quality. It's far from "underwhelming" if the dozens of reviews I've read are to be believed (and they are :p). But it hasn't changed my mind on the PS3 or anything. I was always going to be getting a PS3 because, as far as I'm concerned, it's the better of the current generation of consoles (which is 360 and PS3; Wii doesn't count, it's a toy, not a console). Killzone 2 just looks cool and it comes in an awesome bundle :]

Honestly, Killzone II is nothing more than the next identikit FPS that seem to spawn out every 11 seconds. I've played a lot of First Person Shooters and whilst I'm sick of them, Killzone II makes me barf. There's nothing new about this game and repeats everything, even down to the 'bald space marine' element.

Playstation 3 is a great console, but buying it for the sake of Killzone II is a huge insult and just a waste of space in PS3's library. I'll stick to Flower and Nobi Nobi Boy, at least they have something fun for once.

PS: What reviews have you been reading? I've been reading reviews about it being mediocre at best.

Chrono ..... do you even realise what you're saying a lot of the time? I honestly don't understand how you can such a extreme reaction to Killzone 2 :s

Some of the good reviews I've read are here, here, here and MetaCritic puts it at 92% average score. Which is very, very, very good. Killzone 2 is quite clearly an outstanding game.

Because I play a LOT of FPS. I might not like them, but I enjoyed them helluva lot with my brother. I've played Killzone II and it does nothing to set itself apart from other FPS, except the nifty cover-system. But it baffles me that it isn't even in the MP, only the SP.

And sure, not everyone plays MP. But the SP is short. Basically, it's just another generic shooter. It doesn't even have the fun factor. You'd be better having fun with Call of Duty 4 (or Modern Warfare II when it comes out this year).

Or take my advice and buy Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. Might not be a PS3 exclusive (neither is Modern Warfare II), but the demo impressed me a lot, a lot more than the full game of Killzone II.

Eh, some games deserve the score. Some doesn't. I can list many that doesn't deserve a high score. Killzone II is high on the list of 'not deserving the high score'. Not saying it's a bad game, but it's very overrated.

PS: We can go in circles about the argument or you can trust your instincts and ignore what I say. The latter will save ourselves (well, me) the earache.

Most reviewers are full of ****. It's a fact. I find my own judgment to be far more reliable. Case in point, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and God Hand. Reviewers purposely give games like those lower scores than they deserve because they don't "get" what games like those are about. They also give games like Halo perfect scores. I'm also not willing to trust people who are paid to give good reviews for games that are made by those that fund them.

Considering you linked to the 3 worst offenders for bad reviews, my beliefs have been strengthened.

You still haven't even told me what's good about it. It has good graphics and comes in a nice package? Why would I care about that? I want to play a game. Not watch a tech demo.

Eh, just because you don't like what reviewers say doesn't make them any less qualified to objectively score and review a game. Killzone is universally rated as an outstanding game - one of the best of of the current generation. Disliking "reviewers" for whatever silly reason you manage to conjure does not change that fact. I can't afford (and neither can anyone afford) to buy each and every game that mildly interests us and so we rely on reviewers.

I'll quote you on taht when anyone who ranks FF or Eva low...

Reviews are about taste - if your tastes are similar to those of the reviewer and said reviewer ranks something high or low, it is very likely for you to do the same.

BTW, you didn't answer his question.

Killzone 2 just had a lot of hype around it, being highly anticipated due to it being a product of Sony's an it's an exclusive too, so Sony needed the support plus online play looks decent. But honest to God I have never really seen anyone talk about the first Killzone IRL or the internet either. I don't know why you guys are hating on it that bad, it doesn't look all that innovative or overly interesting, but I'm sure it'll be above the likes of... Call of Duty.

But as said, don't trust reviewers, it's their opinion on a game, not yours.

You know, if you call yourself 'intelligent', you can try out the games by actually... I dunno, renting the game or playing the demo? Or if you feel quite daring, watch 'Yahtzee' (Zero Punctuation) as he points out a lot of flaws that even the average joe doesn't even cover, despite bashing a lot.

Oh and Citizengeek. Your hypocrisy makes me laugh. You, of all people, call Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus a good, if even an excellent game. I can quote you on that because I see you praise that game from time to time. You didn't listen to the reviewers then, so it baffles me why you listen to them now for the dreadfully overrated Killzone II.

Oh and answer the question, I want to see why it interest you.

So are you going to actually tell me what's good about Killzone 2 from your perspective, or am I right in thinking you've not actually played it? I want you tell me what you think is good about it; not what someone else thinks. Don't simply link to the opinions of others. That's not how a debate works. Give your own damn opinion and stop pussy footing around the issue.

Yahtzee clutches at straws and compensates for his lack of insight by using new words he just learnt from a thesaurus and using a comic tone that he expects people to take seriously. The guy needs to watch the AVGN to see how comedy reviews should be done.
