Japanese anime destroying American society

Anime like Pokemon etc. just promote similar fantasy things as other country stuff. If anything, it could cause people to get numerous pets. This is for kids who have active imaginations!

As for DBZ and such, violence is given by the type of person you are. I dont go round beating everyone up, and I watch WWE, DBZ, Ikki Tousen, Street Fighter - So I'm knowledgeable about hitting someone. I don't use that though, and it's just scapegoating media for something people (including kids) should learn to control themselves. And that differculty is determined by the person.

Rants like these are just paranoia built up into words. Like Ryo said, work on society before you deal with meeger things.

But the main fact is... Everything Japanese shown here usually get the media backlash, which is sadly a fact in this day and age.
Um... here being the UK... where anime never makes enough of an impact to actually get a backlash? Uhh, can't honestly say I've ever seen any anti-"anything Japanese" media over here.

Uhh what a idiotic article, if people don't like watching anime don't watch it or don't let your kids watch it, don't force your groundless opinions on other people.

I would have to agree. There's only really been a slight raise in interest in the past few years. I mean there was always an interest as there is with anything but no real backlash (as Chrono Demon put it).

Besides the internet (+forums) and a few random programmes (which don't appear to get the respectfull viewing) I rarely hear anything. I have to force it into conversations most of the time.

That's what the UK is like IMO (maybe it's just where I live). I wish it wasn't true though.
::sigh::

If they are really stuck what to do with shounen shows like DBZ, Naruto etc, They need a channel which caters for that. Instead you get Pokemon which is perfectly fine on Cartoon Network followed by hardcore fighting and continuity.

Oh, The only way (IMO) of Jack Thompson even finding out about Anime is via a Enix game, Or he sits down to watch his children beating the crap out of each other and finds something to set this a cause of.

Its like living in a new age of war, countries trying to stop other countries content from taking over, then make the public believe its "this particular scene" it causes "such a thing", kinda reminds me on video games for banning.

British aren't to fond of it either (remember something about ruining British cartoons?), all things make them led to believe it causes children and teenagers to do something out of order or at least commit a crime, save the children? are you kidding me, more like train the parent.

The Article was indeed a pointless rant to us, however, even overtaking by all the comments, still people will read and think oh no!

The ill-informed dunse that wrote that article was clearly not being objective - he failed to state the context in which the 700 children to hospital because they were watching Pokémon. Of course, it was because of lots of flashing that caused epileptic fits for some children.

Meh, it's not really a tragedy that this one guy was given a stage for his utter nonsense, it's a tragedy that so many people will agree with him.

First videogames, now anime. Will parents ever tire of using red herrings like these to excuse their own failings?

Remember the cartoons you watched as a child, like "Rugrats"? Everyone watched "Rugrats." With his toothless grin and indomitable spirit, Tommy Pickles represented the very best in all of us. He was like a Che Guevara for the MTV generation.
Anyone want take bets on this guy loving crap like Sponge Bob Square Pants? That baby is not the symbol of a movement or revolution. He's a friggin cartoon character.

The americans are immature, their education is inferior to ours, and they like to watch a million of shows that has been done loads of times.

Off course whatever their write are flawed... like this one.

Its like the whole world is against the japanese or something. What has Japan ever done to deserve this, I never know... (Do not use the pearl habour fact)
If you're going to criticise my American friends, at least come up with criticism that can't be applied to the UK too. Better yet, stop being anti-American.

That's just nonsense. American TV has produced some exceptional series, stuff like Desperate Housewives, Friends, Picking Daises, Ugly Betty, Will & Grace, Heroes, Lost and the list goes on. The ratio of good American TV shows to bad ones is about the same as the ratio of good anime to bad anime these days, I would think.

What on Earth are you talking about? The whole world hates America, because of it's Government's foreign policy, if you want to play the "they just hate Japan!!" card.

I disagree with the author of that article as much as the next reasonable person, but that kind of response is a little ridiculous, Chrono Demon.

Eh, I don't hate America. Disliking their foreign policy (for about the last 50 years or so, in fact) is one thing, but to broaden it to a whole country is a little overboard.

Back on topic... isn't the guy who wrote this just some student for a university newspaper anyway?

I'm wondering whether or not this guy will actually have the balls to reply. No doubt, the Oregon Daily Emerald will have received a lot of crap for this, so it will be interesting to see whether or not they admit it was a wind-up or on the other hand, print an apology. The title of "Opinion Editor" appears to suggest that it's the authors job to be an ignorant prick, so I'm guessing this was a calculated attempt to "out" an internet sub-culture; clearly, the Editor in Chief of Anime News Network is taking this seriously enough to write a public reply.

Chris Macdonald seems to be the sort of guy who takes his job seriously, and as such usually gives serious replies - even if a piece may not really deserve it.

I believe I was taking mick of myself by writing a flawed statement, like this guy did... Read closer next time.

But I loled when you mention friends, Desperate housewives... In fact, I loled at the whole thing. Where is Prison Break? Or CSI, or Medium...

David, about the fact everyone hates Americans. Personally, I get annoyed at them. They loud mouth, insult everyone with saying "Noob", and say everyone should respect them cause they help us out in WW2. Either that, or I'm always in a place where I see the bad side of america.

But don't get me wrong, I have a few. But I believe I was taking the mick.

I'm finding it hard to get riled up. Compared to the amount of drivel that anime fans pollute the Internet with, this kind of thing is just a drop in the ocean.
