Uh, in that case I'd stay away from Saikano (or She, the Ultimate Weapon, whatever), as it's considered to be one of the most depressing anime series ever made.
Thought that was Grave of the Firefly's

Grave Of The Firelies is depressing, but Saikano is indeed ranked up there with it on the depression scale.

The thing about Grave of the Fireflies, aside from the fact its distilled heart breaking sadness almost from the first frame, is that it's a true story.

Yeah, Saikano and GotF are pretty much the most depressing anime ever made - in fact, I don't know that I can think of any other depressing series really... although I guess some parts of NTHT and Kino's Journey could be considered somewhat depressing.

The fact that someone made the Uber Depressing Video using Saikano footage should say it all...

(MAJOR SPOILERS in that, btw.)

So, is she, the ultimate weapon can really make people cry, siad in another review i read. But all those advice makes me go and get it, time to spend £20 or £15 over the internet. but,i don't buy over the internet

i remember when i watch the fansubs of this seire, the fansub group thats worked on it put a little warning a few eps before the end saying that if you wanted a happy and non drepressing end please stop watching now. the funny thing was it was already really really drepressing by that point already that i was wondering how it could be any worst ... oh and it i was by the way.

Well, Volume1 is on the way for me, I probably won't watch it straight away as I prefer to watch a maximum of three series' at a time, and I'm currently already collecting Noir, FMP: Fumoffu and Paranoia Agent. But once I complete one of them (most likely Noir since the entire series is released already) I will get to watching this.

question - anyone knows why the thinpack has 7 DVD's three of them looking like a second copy of the previous? I simply don't get it... and don't really feel like watching the second DVD right after I've seen the first one just to figure out ...

I'm up to episode 6 of the series. I'm watching it at a very slow pace ... and I'm not sure why, because it's definitely a very good series! I especially love the dubbing. Be forewarned, though, there is absolutely no action in this series. At least not so far, anyway. I really like the romance story, and how the series deals with the issue of sex (because, usually, anime neglects dealing with sex in a real way, and just uses it as fanservice or for humour). So, it's a definite thumbs up from me, even though I'm only at the halfway mark in the series!

In the main series across all three volumes

Disc 1 has DD 2.0,5.1 soundtracks.
Disc 2 has DTS soundtracks (and one 2.0 English)

Extras are distributed across both discs.

There's no DTS on the OVA

I'm on eps 11 now, no real action so far as well. The character development is absolutely awesome.

I think its a bit farfetched the history of Shuji and Fuyumi though... on sedon though, maybe its not... (just remembered about some weird case like that in the paper a while back)

I see... Thanks. I've just checked the languages bit on the DVD's. Seems like a bit of wasting though... I believe it would perfectly fit in 4 dvds =)

I watched a few episodes of a fansub and bought the DVDs. This is one of the rare times that something looks so good I bought it without actually completing the fansubs.

I think watching something at a slow pace is a good sign. It happened to me with Devilman Lady, and that was an incredible series.

I've been undecided on this one for a long time. On the one hand it is pretty unique, has very cool moments, a nice setting and is brutally honest at times. But on the other hand it just feels...awkward at times? Certainly worth a look, but it doesn't quite sit properly with me in places *shrug*

I bought the first two dvds from America soon after they were released (I was ignorant of fansubs at the time). It was early in my fandom and I'd seen some AMVs of Saikano and thought it might have potential

My main problem with this show is that it falls into that catergory (along with RahXephon and Makoto Shinkai's films) of being an anime with a seemingly serious intention, but is compromised past an acceptable level by the actual content.

The plot feels extremely lazy to me, as if the writers really couldn't be bothered and thought that a soppy love story would distract the viewers from the lack of content. Why is Chise a cyborg? Why is the war being fought? I can't imagine any possible reason for leaving these areas unanswered other than they just didn't give a damn.
