Is NEO Magazine any good?

I checked out their website, joined their forum, but they rarely update anything on there. Wondering if it's worth subscribing to the magazine.

Or do people subscribe to any other anime mags that are better?

Honest Opinion? No.

It depends on what you want it for really?
News? Why bother when most of us in the News & Rumors forum know already?
Reviews? They only review stuff when it comes out in the UK. So if it's not out yet and Crunchyroll/Fansubs/Importing is your only option, then they will be useless to you.

If anyone wanted to write reviews, then I'd probably make a free online anime magazine myself XDDDD

OtakuUSA seems to be a lot better. I don't like NEO. Their font makes it look like they don't put spaces after commas. I'm not a big magazine reader and from what I've noticed, anime gets treated better whenever its brought up in SFX, Empire or something like that. I'm sure it has its fans though.

Sometimes glance at it if I see it on the shelves in Smiths or something, am yet to come across anything that has encouraged me to buy it.

Came here to post that. I used to get Neo occasionally and it was okay, but it's nothing special. OtakuUSA seems to have a better standard of journalism and, of course, the AWO crew write for it too.

I buy it every month. I do the same thing every time; open it, spend 5 minutes looking through to see anything that interests me (normally nothing), throw it into the corner, forget about it.

Not really worth the money, once in a while they give a good series a worthy score but they usually just throw around fat five stars to stuff like Bleach and Shana.

Yeah it is pretty poor overall, they either don't take anime very seriously or their demographic are 12 year olds.

I remember flicking through once and reading their Ponyo review: They absolutely slammed it and gave it 2 stars, truely one of the worst reviews I have ever read. Then 2 pages later they gave something like Naruto(or some other equally fluffy show) 3 or 4 stars.... I wanted to cry.

Normally I would never complain about the scoring in a publication as it's all just opinion, and to be honest I would rather read interesting, thought provoking and honest reviews rather than the same nearly copy and pasted review in every magazine. But honestly the quality of their writing(and of the publication in general) was just so poor.

The reviews on asain film are ever worse!

the only thing worth reading is the occasional blurb from Jonathan Clements, but within a couple of months he normally uploads the article to his blog, why buy the cow...
