is it just me...

m2ts/AVCHD is still just H.264, same as x264. Its still not going to allow you to compress a potentially 30-40GB HD movie into 5GB and retain the full quality. It may still have 1080 line resolution but that doesn't mean its the same quality. They are all lossy codecs at the end of the day.

Resolution and quality are not the same thing. You can have high resolution yet still have poor quality.

My HD setup does a very good job of scaling SD, but I have one of the best hardware scalers out there. Certainly does a better job than a sub-DVD sized over compressed HD rip ;)

If you could get an HD movie into a DVD capacity disc without loss of quality they would never have needed to develop BD or HD DVD.
