I want to cry

I do love console purchasing. The earlier you buy it, the shittier the games are and the more likely it is going to cough its guts on your carpet the day after the warranty expires. It's even worse this 'generation' when you consider the companies are updating the specs on later models, for better or worse. We have a PS3 in this house, and I look at it like it's about to explode constantly.

That and all the games my housemate has suck. It's like he watched Zero Punctuation and brought every game Yahtzee reviewed.

Except Yahtzee doesn't pick a game to review based on prior knowledge that its crap.

Some of the games he reviews are actually quite good.

Y'know, it's threads like this that make me happy about going off gaming and not having the patience to find the right HDTV: This 360 stuff would drive me mental... I don't handle problems such as this very well.

/strokes his PS2

That sucks. I've had mine for a few weeks now, and I don't play it a huge amount despite having 4 games already. I think the likelihood of a 360 breaking down increses if it's on for long periods of time (gaming or on standby).

Reason number 1 why I'd never buy a 360.
Because, as we all know, 100% of 360s break down. /sarcasm

I didn't say they did... yet the fail rate for these things doesn't sound too good. I know too many people who've had their 360 die after only a few months. I'd rather play it safe and stick with a Wii or a PS3.

Your loss, its got the biggest and widest game roster out there right now :)

yeah maybe, but a ps3 is waaay better value for money, blue ray HD quality, FREE INTERNET (lmao something the 360 cant beat) and the controllers have sixaxis and dualshock 3 built into them.

I can't afford a ps3 though,
this is the second 360 i've had brake on me though,
the first was a disk drive problem,

i got it July last year.

Haha, I have a friend who seems to collect games on that basis too. What's wrong with your PS3 though? I have a JP launch model and it's (so far) been running beautifully. The obvious design faults of the flakey 360s aside, I find technology tends to explode for me either the day I get it or after the warranty has long expired.

R (I personally don't have a 360 as when the only game you want for a console is DoA Extreme 2, you know you probably can't justify the cost. Don't think the 360 itself is bad though aside from the failure rate)

damn, ok thats not kl...i know that microsoft have changed their policy on the 360 models, whereas the customer had to pay for servicing if the Xbox malfunctioned in anyway (specifically the 3 rings of death that happend to my mate lol) their new policy stands that they'll repair some problems free of charge so it may be worth phoning the microsoft helpline and seeing if they could fix it, and if they cant do it for free you could be lucky and repair the faults for a small fee. if they do then take this advice: SELL THE DAMN THING WHILE ITS WORKING!!! that along with your games might be enough for a ps3.

good luck

ok peeps i'm now doing the famous towel trick,
i'll let you know if it worked in about 45 mins.

You're looking at the Naruto thread in /h/ too?

I must admit, 45 minutes is a bit long... My limit is usually around the 20 mark. I'll be well impressed if you manage to hold out.

i did it for around 15 minutes with a 15 min cool off time,
its totally screwed though it keeps crashing every 2 minutes,

i'm just gonna have to ring ms and have a moan

I didn't think you'd last for 45 mins.

About the "cooling off period", I'm the same; always exhausted after.

*wink* Don't worry, you don't have to act on here.

Erm... Seriously, I'm sorry about your 360 woes. There's nothing worse than a piece of expensive equipment going faulty on you.

just to top it off i now have one red light and an error message on the tv in a bunch of different languages
(i tied to get both in the picture)

microsoft really do suck ass when it comes to hardware

edit: i seriously don't know what you're talking about as well i'm afraid, i've never watched naruto, bleach or one piece (just so many bloody episodes puts me off)

My deepest condolences for your loss.

Mine croaked last month. I was gutted. But I had it back within two weeks, which isn't too bad.

EDIT: The one red light is what I had. As far as I know, that isn't covered under MS's extended warranty. You might want to try inducing the three lights again.

EDIT 2: Ah, I noticed that you bought it in July last year. It'll still be under warranty, then. Move along, nothing to see here, etc.

You play the 360 on an ancient CRT? :|

Maybe your 360 is trying to tell you it wants a new TV to be partnered with. I would never play a HD console on a SD TV.

That's a bit drastic. The biggest TV in my house is 21", and I'm perfectly happy with all my viewing activities.

No porn jokes please.

i have a HDTV downstairs but i like to play games in bed when i wake up and just before i sleep,

i rang up ms and spoke to some woman, i also rang up GAME and they said it was cool so i think i'lll just bring it back to the shop.

also the 3 red rings are back after i turned it back on

edit: i'm a bit fed up so i'm gonna watch a few episodes of GTO
