How many others go back to their older games?

I've recently booted up my Sega Saturn only to find the drive doesn't spin discs anymore :( ... so instead I got my DreamCast out in all it's shiny white glory. Borrowed some Street Fighter games and Japanese Shoot 'em ups from a mate and decided it's time again .... time to start Grandia 2 again! Then maybe Timestalkers.

I just wonder how many people ever go back to their older games, until my Saturn packed in, I went back to that, most people think I'm weird, getting bored of new games so quickly. Dunno about everyone else, but I think older games tend to play better, back when graphics weren't so "real".

Or am I really weird? :?

I used to always go back to my ol Nintendo system and play mario woo! Those games ruled, the whole story wasnt to thick, the gameplay was complicated, it was just a good laugh to go and bonk on enemys heads haha.

I replay old games over and over again if they are really good, I have been playing Starcraft since it first came out which must be a good 8-10 years ago.

I tend to replay my FF games and really wanna restart FFVIII but first I need to buy myself a new copy

Got a Megadrive off a mate back at uni and love Streets of Rage so I always play that at house parties as people love the retro look.

I still have my Commodor 64, Snes, N64, Megadrive and PS2. I play them all at times. Like McIcy, if it was a good game, I'll have been back to it. Really I only played the C64 a few times to be honest. Completed my Resident Evil and MGS games umpteen times like. Also still love playing Sonic and Golden Eye for N64. My god there's been some awesome games theses past 25years. ^___^

Complete agree with you.

Yesterday, there was a gaming article in the Guardian about how hardcore gamers (Halo shaggers), are completely infatuated with ultra-realistic graphics, and extremely long playing time, and wouldn't even give the older games any thought at all, let alone probably not even having heard of them.

I was playing Capcom Classics the other day, and might fire up my Genesis later (SoR FTW).

I always go back to the older consoles, i used to reguarly fire up my megadrive till all my controllers broke, but i still play on my saturn most of the time, i still love guardian heroes :D and the panzer dragoon series...I wish my nes still worked though :(

You have to say it though, if a game is good it'll stay with you forever, i have gone back and rebought so many games after I sold them just because I love them so much

I like my retro games. I tend to always have a go on a few when i get the chance, like for example on my laptop at the moment, i have Zeus: Master of Olympus, ok its only 6 years old but it certainly doesn't look new, and it plays really wel even now. N64 is one i go on a lot, even if it is just for Conker's Bad Fur Day, that game is an absolute classic and of course Ocarina of time in its original glory. our megadrive still works and i go on that as well, also the SNES, NES, playstation, they all still have their own charms.

Yeah older gaming does rock! My gaming constantly switches between old and new - I love them both as there are some great games coming out but I love my old games as well as they hold so many stories and memories along with them. Whenever my brother comes home its always a case of "so you wanna play on Goldeneye?"

On the issues of graphics being less real - thats sometimes one thing I like about older games as they're not perfect but in a charming way - for example killing someone on goldeneye and slapping them with the unrealistic but hilarious slap sound being a result!

I find myself going to my nearest retro shop and thinking "what have I never played but still really want to?" as there are still games I want for older systems as I never had enough money to get all the greats (such as Conkers Bad Fur Day for N64)

I have my dreamcast sitting in the middle of my wii and 360, my N64 upstairs, PS1 in my computer room hooked up and I have other consoles like the saturn and the NES at the ready if I want to play on them!

I think if you're a true gamer you'll always be playing the oldies as they still are great games

Aye I got my dreamcast out (admitedly a while back) to try and the old Sonic Adventures  Classics. ANd the SNES will live forever, best mario kart EVER was on the SNES.

Dreamcast is one of my favourite machines (I wish I got the Sonic Adventure 2 10th anniversary edition!) Yeah theres some greats on the SNES! I always prefer Mario Kart 64 for some reason even though Super Mario Kart is awesome!

I've got no space for old consoles under my TV, and I don't want them there anyway. I've got too many good new games to feel the need to play random mid-90s stuff.

Even Wii VC downloads lose the novelty after about 15 minutes for me. I've got a few collections of old Sonic stuff, so that's all I really want.

...and LOL @ the new super-realistic games having massive play times. Most new mega-hyped FPS stuff is really short in single-player (6 hours if you're lucky) with a load of multiplayer stuff to pad it out... =/

It's weird but I agree with you there, I've got Street Of Rage 2 and Metal Slug on the Xbox Live Arcade and I'm already bored of it, but I have Metal Slug on my PC and DC, and I still go back to those.

I get bored playing my old games on the new consoles, I always prefer playing them on their original platform.

Dang, I just remembered Guardian Heroes, thanks BlackWolf, it was one of 3 games I bought my multi-tap for and 4 pads, that and Saturn Bomberman AND the legendary <cue> Death Tank Zwei.

I think the only game I still want to buy for my Saturn is Panzer Dragoon Saga, the only one I haven't played

All these games you guys are mentioning, gonna have to break out the console collections and start routing around for all the cartridges!!

I seem to remember having it on the C64. Now that's a retro game. Only have vague recollections tho so probably wasn't one of my faves at the time like. Gotta love good old platform games like.
