How many different shows do you have "in progress"

Not meaning "current" (ie. running on TV in Japan) shows, necessarily, but more specifically shows that you are watching or re-watching on (VHS?)/DVD/BD.

I think the answer to this question might have changed a lot for people over the last few years, as the release schedules and formats have changed so much in the UK, and especially the US. Whereas before you would have (at a guess) the vast majority of the shows you were buying coming out over a period of months or even years, three or four episodes at a time, now you get the initial releases of entire series released in the space of a couple of months, or even just in one go.

Does this mean you now exclusively marathon shows in half- or full-season sets? Do you still work through shows fairly slowly, one or two episodes at a time so as to space it out more? Would you "deliberately" stop watching a show so that you can watch a few episodes from another one to keep things varied? And how many shows do you juggle at a time when you more often have the option of watching a new show all the way through straight away?

Personally, I'm trying at the moment to not be watching more than five series concurrently on DVD, so that I don't end up leaving too much time between watching an episode of each show. Sometimes (although rarely) it can be just one episode, and sometimes an entire show (more likely if it's just one cour) but most likely a single disc at a time (not in one sitting, but before I move on to another show), whether that's three episodes of an old show, or seven episodes as with a lot of newer releases. In an attempt to clear some backlog, I'm also trying to make sure that only one show at a time is a "DVD rewatch" (as opposed to watching something on DVD for the first time that I watched when it aired, or haven't seen at all).

At present I have two shows in progress. Sometimes I have three, but that's limit, especially when one of the shows in question has a serial plot. My short attention span means leaving something for a couple of days can easily turn into a couple of weeks, by which time I've forgotten everything.

I certainly don't miss the drip-feed that was singles, though in a way I do fondly remember a time when anime was so much more difficult and expensive to obtain, when I think I valued it more than I do now.

For a change of pace I tend to watch one serious show and one lighter show concurrently. At the moment it's Moribito and Familiar of Zero. There's a ton of shows I'd like to rewatch but the backlog (oh, the neverending backlog) takes priority.

I'm still on disc 3 of Desert punk. (i only have up till disc 4, still looking for decent prices on discs 5 and 6)

Finished disc 2 of Bakuretsu Tenshi (Burst angels) Have all the other discs but just pacing myself.

Finished disc 2 of Gurren Lagann lastnight (looking for vols 2 and 3 now)

Naruto shippuden, finished vol 1, have vol 2 on its way in the post. so hope to watch that soon.

Disc 4 of Daphne in the brilliant blue (will be watching this whenever i have time)

Elfen lied, disc 2. I've been trying to finish this one off. but decided to finish off Azumanga daioh first.

Still have GunXSword and a load others to even start. bloody backlog will only get worse when the expo rolls around.

I Tend to try watch favourite shows as much as possible, then check out the other things in the backlog, i know for certain that the last to be seen will be the 3 free anime i got in the expo luckybag thing.

I watch up to three shows at one time (I like to contrast themes and styles) if I'm on a roll, but my "currently watching" list also features shows that I really want to finish sometime soon. I have a hell of a lot "on-hold" as well. I might even pick up some of my "dropped" at some stage as well.

Interesting to hear people mention maintaining a balance of styles. I guess I don't think about that too much, but I do like to be watching a mixture of lengths of series, so that I feel like there's some fairly consistent turnover.

Are these shows you've started and watching all of them. or are you watching some of them and others are on pause for now?
It just seems abit weird to have this many shows all going on at the same time.

I'm currently only watching 2 series. But at the beginning of a season at least its not unusual for me to be watching 10 to 20 series.

I still have about 40 series on-hold though that I should really get round to finishing.

Usually I dont end up watching more than maybe two DVD series at a time, partly because I mainly stick with series that have already come out in a box set so I don't have to wait between releases, also if I started watching too many I would probably start but never finish watching some shows, that and the fact I just don't have the money to buy too many DVD's at once

Also sometmes if it's a very good series and I'm really enjoying it I can breeze through it without even thinking of watching anything else. However on the whole I don't like rinse out a series too quickly

far too many, i still haven't finished Rurouni Kenshin, nearly done with Samurai Deeper Kyo, Kare Kano is about half done, Code Geass R2 and a few more i can't remember at this time

Current: SW2, K-on!!, Katanagatari, Amagami SS, Ookamisan, Shiki, Fairy Tale
Part dropped: HotD, Mitsudomoe, Seitokai Yakuindomo
Old: Marimite (thankyou rightstuff), Shana S2, Futari wa Precure Max Heart

For shows I have on disk they normaly get done in one go, or on a disk per day over a week.

I often have 2 shows on the go - one on my bd player and one on my dvd.

Currently I have the following in progress,

Big Windup - part way through disc 4
Sgt Frog Season 1 Part 2 - part way through disc 1
Jiburiru Second Coming - Complete Collection - Disc 2 (this is a replacement as the original disc 2 was faulty)
One Piece Season 2 Seventh Voyage
Jyu-Oh-Sei - Planet Of The Beast King Complete Set (region 2)
Ghost in the Shell - Innocence (Region B blu-ray)
Afro Samurai Season 1 (Region B blu-ray)

The following are in the post,

Black Rock Shooter dvd (comes with Megami Magazine 9 September 2010)
Full Metal Panic!: Remastered Complete Series 1 (Blu-ray)

Big Windup Disc 4 has been skipping part way through the 3rd episode so I will need to put it on hold for now.

With regards to how many episode of a show I watch at a time - I normally watch the discs as I buy them. I change the order if a newer purchase has marks on it to make sure it works.

I just stick to one show at a time,at the moment i am watching one piece,i have all the region 1 sets that have been released so far, thats 13 sets to get through,i try to watch a boxset per day,i,m currently on season 2 fourth voyage eps 92-103,but my back-log of anime to catch up on is getting scary lol, mind you i always make sure every day i watch a ghibli movie and also watch some random urusei yatsura episodes, that has been a daily ritual for many years now lol. :D

Only Naruto and FMA Brotherhood right now.

Once I get up to date (with the UK DVD releases at least), I'm planning on watching Gundam Seed.

Just watching Solty Rei, then going to finish Trouble Chocolate, try and fit in some Ranma 1/2 and maybe start on the ping pong club, that should keep me going till Naruto arrives from HMV next month.

If I manage to watch that lot then going to start watching speed grapher or moonphase or finish Daphne in the brilliant blue (forgot i was watching that for a min)

Reading Bleach manga and Battle Club aswell then shifting to A.I love you.

I normally do all this by choosing to sleep less and try and put in about 3-4 hours of anime watching per night (22.00-02.00) and try and sneek an hour in the daytime if I am lucky :D

I'm currently watching Samurai Champloo, about halfway through. I watched most of that over two days, early on in the week but after a personal problem, I haven't managed to get around to watching it again.

I have a whole bunch of series to watch which I hope to watch over holiday breaks or long weekends, but not many more of them to come so yeah, guess I'll have to stick to manga, which seems to be the easy option atm.

I'm hoping that over my break off work that I'll re-watch Ergo Proxy, preferably over two days.
